What the deal with corrupt zip disks?

Whats the cause?

Is there a way to fix em?

Can you retreive files from a corrupt disk?

It can be inappropriate handling of disks, the time they spend laying around close to something with a large magnetic field or it may be just the long time they were not in use. I heard about many causes on this board.
Don't know about the way to fix them, maybe search option will help.

A large speaker and a couple of months close contact to it may (doesn't have to) damage data on zips.
However, I never experienced any difficulties using zips.

never say never,

I had mine for about 5 years never had a problem til now. Lost a lot of data.
But I just went out and bought a MCD reader from VST. :(

That's cause I used them just a couple of times and got me a card reader over 2 years ago : )
