No, there's audio tracks. Doesn't work the same. It's all in the manuals.

according to the jj os compairson chart for the jj os for the 2500 there is no direct record for either os 1 or the forthcoming os 2 so i doubt that jj will pit it in either of the os's for the 1000. Just my thoughts, I use a 1000 with os 2 and the audio tracks are great. If you want to do any processing to the sound you can always apply the recorded sample to a pad and then go from there. I personally have never used a 2500 so don't know if the direct record function is good or used a lot by users.

So what is the difference between audio tracks and the previous continuous sample tracks?

nothing really. except that audio tracks there is no program and the sound is not applied to a pad so you can not do things like ADSR and stuff like that to the sound.

Looking at the JJ OS 2 manual....recording audio tracks looks like direct recording...what is the difference, if any?

to my knowledge when you use direct recording it records the sound and directly (as the name states) to a pad in a chosen program. this is the difference or at least what i think the difference to be.

-punch in and out without stopping the sequence
-save's the location of when you hit record

direct record: records a sample while the sequence is playing, and gives you the option to assign the sample to a pad then insert a note-on event to your sequence to trigger that sound.

when you reach the end of a loop with direct record, it continues to record the sample while the sequence gets looped back to the beginning, allowing you to actually record a sample which overlaps from the end of your sequence to the beginning.. which audio tracks do not allow. that is a HUGE oversight on JJ's part.

direct record is also superior to audio tracks in that direct recorded samples work in song mode because they utilize mpc's capabilities the way they were intended, where samples are on pads and sequences trigger the pads.

continuous sample track: when a track is set to be the continuous sample track, you can hit play at any point in your sequence, and the samples on that track will begin playing mid-sample without having to wait for the next note-on event to be triggered. it essentially would turn the track into an audio track.

I don't really see the 1k as being a direct recording device. It's more designed to supplement a studio, not take the place of one. Buy and MV8800 if you want all that.

so with the direct record i could make an 8 bar drum loop on one track, make a new track and have someone play a synth line live that would be looped automatically into the seuence on the fly? If ive got it wrong, let me know, im looking to upgrade soon. sick and tired of Akais OS siht.
