Finding BPM

I think I read some here a while back that you could find the BPM of a sample while in trim mode how do you do that? And if not is there any other way i can figure it out?

Did you search the forum archive ? It's been answered before in a few handy examples.

There is a "tap tempo" button on your mpc.

I know there is a tap tempo button but I remember seeing you can find the exact bpm while in trim mode but how?

You can find the exact tempo of the sample by using the tap tempo button. Why would you want a computer to do it for you?? It certainly isnt faster or more acurate.

You guys are harsh..... You could have answered the question with less typing then those replies took......

I am not at my MPC right now, and I am not too sure about the accuracy of the number it gives you... But there is a screen in the JJOS 3.08 that you get a BPM, in the trim section..... on the Convert sceen.... ? i will update this when i can.....


But this may not be an accurate number, I am not sure.......

Sorry you caught wind on this one. To be really honest i wasnt even trying to come off as an ****. I was just trying to let that person know that what he is trying to achieve is more acurate and less time consuming by using the tap tempo feature. I was actually trying to put it as simple as possible so the point would get across in one message. I know this is the getting started section. Beileve me i had so many questions when i first started out. Dont read into things so much. Thats the problem with text, it can be read a million different ways.

How do you use the tap temp button method?

Have you not got a manual?

There is a section in the manual that show you haow to setup how many taps it will take for the MPC to determine the BPM..... My understanding is that you tap at the pace you want it to be and after a few taps the MPC makes it happen....

in my opinion ud better try doing it by ear... dunnow about tempo finder but when its too tight its kinda whack

I agree with that. I trim my sample till it is a bar long (using your ear) and then using step edit place this sample at the start of bar one and the start of bar two. Loop these first two bars and vary the temp till it sounds good.

Philosophically, i think we should hardly let our machines do the job and limit us... Yes limitations are good for creativity... but creativity shouldnt be limited in itself. What i mean is... when uve got a machine that works with bars and that gives u ALL THE SPACE U WANT, why not take it...

Make the looper on.. and just... dont let the machine make the beat.. make it urself... a lot of cats wonder why ''pro beats'' are always banging more.... no its not ONLY a matter of equing...

Trying to think in Beats and bpms and stuff from the beginning will prolly get u to do the lamest beats ever... (and im not hatin on knowledge)
