Is this really necesary to do or can I just place the card in and save away? Im just wondering becuz in the manual it says for floppy (i have the old XL so theres no insight in the manual for CF but i would imagine it would be the same) that it will erase everything on the disk...I thought the whole point of formatting was so you could save things on it. So is it really manditory that you format the disk? Also I heard it makes the saving and loading process longer if you format the disk.

Yes absolutly format any disk before using. Weather it floppy, zip, compact. If you dont, ull most likely ended up with a corrupted card or disk somewhere down the line.

okay so how do I do that...should I just follow the steps in the manual that go along with the floppy and just replace floppy w CF or is there a different way of doing that?

I am not at my mp right now and its one of those things that i just kinda naturally navigate to. But, i would check in your load or save screen and then look for an option that says format disk or format card or anything format. Make sure there is nothing on the card or it will be erased. It only takes like 5 seconds and your done and that card should be good from the computer to the mp.
