Timing and Tempo. Snares on 2 and 4?

When I make a beat I do it without timing correct. But isn't there a method where your snares hit on 2 and 4? It's really hard to do that because the drums won't match up with the sample.

Basically there is no rule where snares should be placed, it depends on the samples you use and the way you feel it. Sure, on 2 and 4 - it's the most common way of programming, but after you tried that you probably will go further and experiment.
When you record sequence without timing correction, don't forget to use the click (metronome) as your guide. Lately I noticed that I use click just to start, to get tight kick and snare or maybe just hihat with snare as core. After that I just use the pre-count and no click while recording, cause it disturbs my way of listening and recording, you know what I mean ?

another thing to take into account is the fact that back then...everything was played LIVE so the timing is going to be off a little. a little human error is what makes the music sound natural.
