I would not place a "spinning platter / fragile head mechanism" storage device inside a device that is to be percussively hit by human hands ( with vigor ) on regular occasions.

By "spinning platter / fragile head mechanism" I mean a regular hard disk like the laptop ones you're making reference to.

Regular percussive shock/vibration from ongoing front panel whacking will kill the drive.

"Will" simply being a matter of time.

Unless of course you go to the extensive lengths of housing said "spinning platter / fragile head mechanism" drive within an additional mil-spec shock isolation device. ( not worth the hassle or expense )

I believe other solutions suggested in this thread to be the better choice.

Good luck.

Rohan.

JD Wilson sells them.

He still has the good pcd-15b's, and 25's which will work in the 60 with 3.10e, or the 3K. He's super helpful and personally answers the phone if you call:
(727) 953-6877

Type "scsi for samplers" into google.

I'm not sure if JD ran over tutor's dog or what because my attempts to put the link in here result in the dreaded disney.com.com rubbish.

I hate spammers like everyone, but this is ridiculous.
