Not so sure if JJ could do this. I've never heard an explanation from the JJ crew as to exactly why they couldn't/wouldn't do anything with the 500 but the "Not really 5000 but actually 3500" is another question entirely because if it has USB2.0, more standard memory and a dedicated hard drive controller (has to for drive streaming/recording) then you have to be talking about a new hardware platform, though the fact that it has the same memory add-on limitation tells me it's probably just one of the newer or higher end devices from the same Renasis PDA line as the last three MPCs. Possibly the SH7263 or SH7203 instead of the old SH7727.
It's pretty well established that the JJOS is based on Akai code (i.e. it had the same sometimes terminal bugs which JJ eventually corrected) but it's possible they don't have the "access" to do the same thing for the "Not really 5000 but actually 3500" -- Unless perhaps they can code it from scratch.
With that and Akai's nearly abysmal software track record in mind, I think it would be foolhardy to invest in a "Not really 5000 but actually 3500" expecting JJ to cleanup Akai's messes again until we get more hard info on this subject or at least some statement from "JJ" on the matter.
