old synths and hihats

yo, anyone played with a yamah dx7 ? ive had one for a while, the 12bit version.. i like the sound alot, oldschool.. could see it being used for wutang type style shit.. old movie music

curious to what other people dig outta em..

also.. anyone have any tips for good hh patterns ? variation of two of the same samples with differant effects/eq/tuning/attack or whatever.. just anything to get outta the same tick tick tick tick i always run into..

turn quantize off and play them sparsely. Listen to jazz drummers, they go off on HH's.

The DX7 sounds great. Good Bass. Programing it is a **** (someone said like painting your house through the mail slot) but there should be millions of patches online.

is quantizing automatically off until you do Timing Correct ?

Nope, whatever value it is set at will affect all recorded notes. You have to turn it all the way counter clockwise to get it off.

Yeah. Man. There are billions of free downloadable patches for the DX7 online. Go to www.synthzone.com and search through the Yamaha pages.
You'll be busy forwever, but you'll be happy. There is also a few editor/librarians for that jawn too. That will help you program it and get more life outta it.
