Im in the market for a midi controller with about $100 bucks. Something more than 25 keys, somthing i can intergrate my programs with and is able to be octaved up and down. I have a Emu-0404 usb and its taking the last spot on my 4 usb ports in the back of my laptop. Should i buy keys that are midi in out and thru or buy a usb hub and get usb. I have a keyboard, mouse, recording interface, and a usb wireless internet adapter all plugged in the back. Just in case that's helpful.

there are a couple of options if you are simply trying to free up usb ports. cop a cheap wireless keyboard and mouse, and that will only take up one slot. and cop a usb hub. ive got 4 usbs on my laptop and a usb hub, and everything is full. but i keep one onboard for swapping out my portable hd/thumbdrive/ipod/and anything else. otherwise the rest are dedicated for one thing or another.

another option is to cop the midi keyboard and a midi cable if you dont have one. if you are using an mpc 1k you can run midi thru. i control my vstis thru the mpc, so i dont need to use a usb port.
