having to load os on startup??

So, Ive posted about this more than once now but no one has responded....

I tried to put a laptop hd in my 2kxl, it didnt work because I was trying to go straight into the IDE slot, not the scsi (my bad). I put the IDE cable in backwards (no tab on the IDE connector) and ever since I have had to load an os from floppy disk at startup. Is there any way to load and save the os back into the MPC, without having to load it everytime I power up my equipment?

Im mainly wondering, If I get the card reader from vst, will this be an issue??? (Ive read they provide an cf card with an os on it, but will it automatically boot the os upon start-up?)

I have a MCD and I jsut loaded the BIN. file on my XL and never had to have it on my CF card ever again and I have had no problems.

You shouldn't have to load it every time up power it up. For some reason your MPC is not saving the OS. Try calling VST concerning your problem, the chip that holds the OS may need to be replaced.

ouch.....sounds like Im going to have to spend some paper Ive emailed vst, just waiting for a response. I dont want to have to buy a new MPC......If I do Im searching for a 3000. The 2kxl still works, but its kind of a headache....I can live with it I guess

Yo ! Your problem sounds a bit familiar.
Had the same thing once.
Try loading the os from disk to start it up,
and then load the os AGAIN !
Then it will be stored in the MPC ( hopefully.. )
Did the trick for me !!

This will take care of it once you load the floppy go to the MPC2XL BIN. file and load that and it should work fine you shouldn't have to load the OS disk anymore

I know how to do it, Ive just never tried loading it twice....Thanks for the help, guys. One of my friends has the same problem, if it works Ill be able to help him out too! Ill let you know how it goes later on.

It worked! I loaded 1.14, but it wouldnt just auto boot on startup. I tried 1.20 and it works. Good thing too because I contacted VST and they said Id have to get them to reflash my ROM chip. Id have to ship it to and from Pasadena from Canada and pay them $75 in labor to load the os. That would have cost me $200, at least!!

Helping out a fellow MPC-a-teer in distress was a good reason for me to finally register.

you guys have to read the manual.. it tells you that you have to save the OS to flash memory...

you cant just load it and expect it to automatically save..

It had always loaded prior without any disk. I am usually the one harping on about reading the manual, so yeah, youre right....But I didnt know that I needed to re-flash the rom until I contacted VST and adrian mentioned "the chip that holds the os", so I didnt know what to reference in the manual. Yeah, So, thanks for being condecending EM. I thought this site was for obtaining help, which is what these other dudes did.......
