Quickening when diggin

Im finding that I aint really listening for a loop, im just listening to the sound of the record, as in the tone of the record and if it sounds wack that’s it that shit is going back in the pile instantly.

Meanwhile peeps next to me r looking at me like “ u only listened for 3 seconds” lol

word.. hehe.. had the same thought two days ago.. like "people must think that i'm stupid or something.. just listening for a record in like half a minute.."
they don't know it's for sampling tho'.. not so many digs to sample in norway.. is it like that in america? that alot of people digs for samples when you are at record stores?

allz i know is the poeple at the counter can spot your ass out a mile away, then you come up to pay with 30 random ass records from the dollar crates wearing a puffy jacket...lol....they know what time it is.

as far as digging, ive only really ran up into a couple other people looking for samples at the same time as me in the past couple years.

Though I am prety new too the site and still trying to figure out the MPC 2000xl, MFC-42 and how to sample off my turntable, I advise ya if your at a store to listen to the whole record, every song if that........I learned this by reading an article in The Source on Pete Rock......You can listen to a song and not like it yet it'll have hot instruments in it....he advised to look for what instruments are being plaid......one of the kids in this board has a picture of Pete Rock from that Source mag

i agree,i'll even listen to a 12 minutr song done by Mozart start to finish if i had to.cause just my luck i'll miss that hot ass break or something playing in the last 6 seconds of the song.ADVICE-LISTEN TO THE WHOLE SONG!!!!!!!

Depends with me.. if i got something in mind and i dunno wtf is on the record.. id skip thru it real quick listenin to mainly the intros and outros and try n spot any breakdowns.... if im generally listenin for something to inspire me then i listen to the whole song..

i actually think its good to listen to other genres of music anyway.. i can get into classical and soul and funk and german beer drinking songs and Mr Men ride again and punk rock and-u get the idea.. gives me a new outlook on hip hop.. otherwise u get so used to it it gets boring...

I don't have time to listen to the whole record in the store, I buy records from arists I know of, and the ones I don't know I tend to skip around the tracks a little bit. Showbiz once said in a magazine you should listen to the record from beginner to end, and so did Premier cause he said there can be dope parts in the middle of a record, or anywhere on it for that matter.

It really depends on what type of stuff your diggin through. Certain types of music tend to be really repetative, so much that you only gotta listen for 3 seconds to get the jist of the rhythm of it. Other types have so many breakdowns and changes in the arrangements that you gotta listen to the whole thing to see what it turns into. I do the 4 stop rule usually on each song on almost everything just in case you know. Im sure over the years Ive skipped right over some ill fodder and never realized it.

listen to the whole song u don't get the feel of the song if you don't there are alot of samples you may pass by skipping ahead

Thats why i like sampling vinyl so much.Cause i can skip small parts without FFing the track and not listening to it.....i iften spoted loops in various spots of a song.
