first dig tomorrow!

Hey everybody im gonna go out for my first dig tomorrow going to check out some thrift stores or wherever i can get my hands on some records. Any tips or suggestions?

You can haggle most thrift shops if your patient. I ended up with 5 crates for $20.... and make sure you check the records. Aint nothin worse than getting home and finding a gouge in a record...very painful...

if it's your first i wouldnt recommend diggin at the thrift store ,

INLESS YOU KNOW what your looking for and know what artist you looking for.

i would hit a rercord store first, get something you know you'll like,you may even get a chance to listen to what you want to get.

ask the store owner to help you out and finding certian sounds but dont tell him what your using it for ,most onwers dont like people that sample records.

do your reseach on here first,then go out and dig.

main thing have fun and enjoy.

TIPS:
1:pull out the record make sure it's the correct record
2:look for scratches and damage(warps, deep surface marks)
3:check for mold and fungi

Remember what i said about hagglin' I just hit a thrift shop up by my crib today. 2 minutes of negotiating and $20 later i loaded my car with:

did you pick it up from someone that was droppin off?

or did you get them from the store before they hit the floor .
cause they wont haggle .as far as i know the ones around my parts dont.

20's not bad but i would have just gone thru them first really

oh shit thats alot a records for 20 bucks haha but like dj e.d.e said once you go through the stuff thats shitty its probably gonna be less than that but still i would for sure take that for 20 bucks no questions asked ha good find lucky

I recently found out independant thrift stores are ALOT easier to talk down than good will. THe goodwill by me sells Barbra, and Barry Manilow records for 3 dollars a peice!

Every effing thrifstore has those!!!

So, yeah, my advice is garage sales and small businesses instead of chain thrift stores

na this is a lil ma and pop spot they just end up collecting dusk. I go by once and a while and convince him that hell never sell em and walk out wit a bunch of records. I started putting them on the shelfs, roughly 210 records +/- No barbara, not lawrence welk, no polka...lol. Mainly solo trumpet, jazz, brass type ish. Alot of percussion and in one box a bout 20 sinatras..lol at the end of the day i make out cuz i just sell what i dont use and end up wit way more Plus im not picky wit samples. all i need is a few seconds off a few records

ya well good deal man maybe ill get lucky haha.

Especially if he looks in his 40s or 50+!

Not always. I found a James Last "Well kept sectret" in a Chic - Good Times (extended) Cover on a flea market. It didnt hurt me
