ok so im using jj os 3.08 and im trying to hook up reason as a sound mod. i tried to set it up the way it was done on youtube with a usb cable from my keyboard to my pc, and one midi cable from midi out(keyboard) to midi out (mpc). i then turned on reason and set the channel to 1a? no sounds are coming into mpc and it wont record anything. any ideas?

its not midi out to midi out (this wont work) but:

midi out mpc to midi in computer/keyboard

ensure, you selected the right midichannel and device on ur mpc as well as in your computer.

Keyboard MIDI Out to MPC MIDI In 1

Computer MIDI Out to MPC MIDI IN 2
Computer MIDI In to MPC MIDI Out A

Reason set to Midi Channel A

Make sure you choose MIDI on the main screen of the MPC instead of DRUM and set the right Channel. Turn off any program.

Well it depends on what you are midi'ing up with a usb. It seems like alot of keyboards will only go start to the computer and won't work through an MPC, even the new AKAI MPK49, which just came out in November. I got it for X-Mas and was confused for days until I saw another thread, AKAI didn't even know it wouldn't work that way. What is your setup??

I have a question. Maybe one of yall can help me
is there any way I can have more than one sequence in reason, Since I'm recording da reason sounds in reason's sequencer and da mp sounds in da mp? ( i wanna be able to change sequences on da mp and then for it to change on reason)
This Is really buggin me since I'm not using da mp to record reason as midi.

Sorry if I made ma wording hard to understand

Ps. I do it this way because there is no latency. Da 9 ms is too much for me.

i have an m-audio midi 2496 audio interface with 1 midi in and 1 midi out.

i have an mpc1000 with the latest jjos installed.

i am in the process of purchasing an m-audio axiom 25 keyboard controller that has midi in and out aswell as usb midi.

i was just wondering, could i also use the usb cable to control reason? cuz if i have the controller connected to the mpc via midi, i would only be able to control reason if the mpc is switched on.

also, how are you finding the mpk49? i would be interested in getting one if i knew it was reliable.

thanks for your reply

peace

alrite so ive followed the instructions given in the jj os manual stan steez posted (thanks stan) but i am still not get any sound. first i did the set up with my m-audiophile 2496 interface and set the bus a to the Delta Midi in with is the option for my interface. usually wen i assign my keyboard to bus a, whenever i press a key a red light shows up in the channel of the midi device page. however, no lite is showing up.

since this didnt work, iswtiched midi cables into my midiman sport 2in 2out usb interface and set it as device for bus a. once again same problem as before.

midi signals are going thru because the green bar is moving wen i press a key but its just not showing up in the device part.

on my mpc in the sync tabe of mid/sync.

lastly i dont kno if this is useful information but i am using an edirol pcr-m80 as my midi controller..
somebody please help so i can start making beats ( ive been dead for 3 weeks now (n))

narqotiq - if I understand you want to sometimes use the keyboard and the mpc, like to sequencing and stuff, and sometimes just the keyboard
without powering up the mpc?? If so you ddefinetly can us the usb midi for reason, I'm thinking if you have the midi cables going in the mpc and the usb into the computer, when you want to use the mpc, just disconnect the usb if it interferes, cuz the usb on mine overrides the midi cables.

Also, I don't know if you can control Reason, meaning the sequencing, with your keyboard so you will have to use the one in Reason and the keyboard would just be a slave midi controller

The MPK is actually great, I haven't really tapped into all ity's potential, like the assignable knobs and sliders, but it's def. solid.

kanaris - I had these same problems that's why I'm answering everyones questions. Yours seems like a quick fix, but I can't really understand your setup.
A useful note: When you have devices assigned to midi channels, they shouldn't be highlighted at the bottom, you know, where you're seein that green bar? Because if it is, the note will play regardless of which channel is selected in the MPC
Also, sometimes when I create devices the cords aren't connected in the back, that used to confuse me. Hit tab and make sure all your connections are right, and you have to create a mixer for everything to run thru to the main outs, My sound card only gives me one set in the audio out bar.
This might be elementary to you guys but these are some of the things that used to slow me down.

yo 700verbal my man whats good? thanks for the reply homeboy.

i was hoping that i could have my controller plugged into the mpc via midi, this would mean that the mpc would do all my sequencing.

but also have the controller plugged to the computer via usb, for sequencing in reason if the mpc isn't switched on. but it appears many people are havin problems with this.

sparqs video on youtube is somewhat insightful, but the way he explains the cabling, alot of people including myself are finding it incomprehendable.

any knowledge bro?

peace.

Yeah that should work, like I said, you might just have to un plug the usb when you're using the mpc, also disable midisync in reason when NOT using the MPC. Let me know if you have an issue
