I am looking to buy my first MPC for doing mostly Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop. My question is which MPC is worth my money, either a used MPC-3000 or a new MPC-2000XL? I also have an old Ensoniq EPS(not the 16+ but the old original) to use in conjunction with it if that makes a difference in features.

One last thing, the sound that the box can produce is a big factor for my purchase. The crispier and dirtier the better, so if the 3000 has more of a lo-fi sound then I would lean more towards that one.

you have 12bit covered with the eps, get the 3000 for sure. Big in trip hop circles.

I would suggest a "used" XL. I think the 3000 will be a little too expensive. I love mine, but if I were buying now, I would get the XL instead.

Also, make sure that you tap into those online resourcs for the EPS. That was a well loved machine back in the day.

Peace.

Since he is considering a new XL or a used 3000, it seems like he has the funds earmarked for that kind of expense. a used XL would be the cheaper option, but I think he would be happier with the 3000 to start with.

If funds were an issue, I would agree with homer.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am starting to make my mind up. I may be getting the 3000. There is a snag though, it seems that all of the ones on ebay will not sell outside of the U.S.A. so I might be stuck with the 2000XL.

If there is one you want and you have good feedback, talk to the seller, they may make exceptions as long as you pay all shipping and any duties that may apply.

get the 2000xl for sure. the mpc 3000 is way over rated. and this is just me personally, but it feels so good to open new gear as opposed to used.
