Kanye West Claps

How does Kanye West get the claps in his records, to sound like this.

To be honest with you, what you need to do, is study him for yourself if you really want to know whats goin on.

Understand the theories of sound design and processing...Its all in the ear. He probably stops messing with his sound when 'HE' feels they sound good.
You try the same approach. Asking bland questions like that dont help any1 round here

I've looked at a couple of your posts and you've got some good questions. I think it would help you a great deal to do a little research though.

Read the Tips listed in the post at the head of this, the "Production Techniques" forum. Good stuff in there. Also search for the "Newbie Bible" at MPC-Tutor Forum also. It's good. Then also look at the all of the tutorials offered here.

Finally, if you can manage it, understudy with somebody. You're in the BX, all things are possible there. 1000s of producers and engineers in the Rotten Apple. Seeing things first hand is far more valuable than just reading about it. If you can't find somebody to let you sit in and learn from them, then rent an hour or two at a studio where you know they are doing the kinds of stuff you like. aks the engineer to give you a lesson in whatever you wanna learn. You'd be surprised at what you'll pick up.

Kanye is cool. He learned a lot from NoI.D. He comes from a tradition. People are only jocking now because he's paid. Nobody's jocking No.I.D. What's the diff? Is it about skills or bills?

Learn the tools and make your own way. Add to the tradition. We need it.

I know this post is old, but he might just combine sounds. It may not be as complex as we want to think it is. Mix a snare and clap& see what you get. Oh and to piggyback on what was said earlier. No i.d. was forgotten for a minute. He was making beats of that caliber with common in 97. He's tight!

No ID is one of the most slept on no doubt. I read like a year ago that he signed a deal with DEF JAM, I don't know if it's an album deal or a Production deal but I'd take either or... just to hear from the man would be nice.

Yeah he is with def jam/def soul. I dont know if you dj or not, but he gotta r&b singer called K. Fox he put a 12" out for late last year. It was hot, but got lost in the shuffle. But he has a label imprint, cant remember the name tho.

But Kanye has been well known to chop another man's drums as well, nothing wrong with you doing the same, but only after you learn how to stack snares, eq, and compress

I always have went by the rule instead of trying to **** around and waste time trying to make hot drums, I'll just up my game and cop hot drums right off the jump, that way my drums cant help but be hot no matter what I do to them

You can burn hours off a clock just constantly tweaking and tweaking drums, thats why alot of cats sample their drums cause theres been some engineer with a knot in his lower back, chain smoking cigarrettes constantly tweaking the shit out of some kick and snare, you can just listen for it and add it to your collection

somebody said something about jocking kanye, but how can somebody completely jock someone else? it really doesn't take much to distinguish your sound, individuality comes from your patterns and sounds...even if you dig through old music(in my case, my father's stuff) and make it sound new...there is no jocking in that because the first mainstream hip-hop record was from a sample...sampling aint new, which is something people gotta realize b4 you say someone is jocking...i'm not saying that whoever said somebody was jockin kanye is wrong, but there is nothing new under the sun...bottom line, **** what everybody else is doin and do you...

To me, the easiest way to get this and that sounding like Kanye, is to jus sample his drums cos thats what it sounds like ur aiming for (his sound)

Kanye has a nice collection of drums but to me its the patterns that make him stand out...His most used kick is a Dre kick (But cos of the way he uses it with all the congos and soul samples, it dont sound like it) His claps etc are mostly out of rolands modules layered with drums he already sampled.

Just experiment...Try things...If it sounds hot, keep it....A tip is to mix your old snares with new ones that you sample)

no i.d did a hot, hot track for this group named midwikkid, called "like we 'sposed ta"...and he also did a track on jaheims last album that was blazing...i heard a remix of that track with jadakiss on it...major, majorly talented cat..i met him once down here in atlanta, he's cooler than the other side of the pillow....
