Just came back from a local spot.

damn i havent been diggin in a WHILE. so i was just bored outta my mind and decided to look online for some thrift stores around my area. found this place that had a shit load of records, so i left the place with a few. let me know what you guys think. i havent gave a listen to them yet cuz my turntables are in my trunk from a gig. i spent $11.58 to be exact.







now i thought this one was very interesting. its a leather case called "the swing years" and includes 6 records. im very excited to give a listen to this.

Pretty weak dig bro. I got almost all those records. I got them for .25 each

yeah i mean i havent been crate diggin for long either. everything is still new to me. every dig is adventorous though, always learning about new stuff.

so what you think? are there some gems in these records?

Nah you bought some pretty wack records in my opinion. That one with the instruments laying in the bed looks like it could be dope. But then again it looks like one of those records that has a dope cover but turns out to be WACK, that type of record I would probably skip over.

Swing records are pretty corny imo to, i also never found anything hot on any 60's shitz yet but who knows. You will get better at diggin with time.

I agree with fobedafied. I also think you should be able to find something dope that you can use even though late George Benson and Lionel Ritchie stuff are quite cheesy I don't know how long you've been buying records but I remember when I started and bought stuff like Bellamy Brothers haha. Didn't know anything about the music history. At least you buy soulful stuff, so that's good.

I don't wanna sound like a big shot or anything because I'm not but like fobedafied said, just keep on digging man, you're gonna find doper and doper stuff each time.

I dunno about that particular record there, but if I woulda seen it I'd give it a try on the strength of Claude Bolling. I believe he's from France. I got a soundtrack from him (not Borsalino) with some heat on it for cheap that an on-line dealer was selling for an extremely high price.

So to D-REW... get to know the different artists, the instruments they play or orchestrate, labels (CTI, Blue Note, etc), year of the albums, artists who've already been sampled, and for the artists you already know deliver sampling material. And take a chance every now and then on a weird cover or two. When it comes to "blind digging", I usually follow the weird cover/never seen it before m.o. , or look for clues like familiar artist, instuments or year. Also, I pick up anything from the early 70's with somebody rocking an afro without hesitation.

As said You'll get the hang of diggin soon. You need to get to know all the shit that familliarly comes up at all the cheap spots.

Look for records that you'll like though. I want a record thats great overall that i'll listen to. Not a f*cking James Last record with one alright mid funky track on it.

I see digging like building my own libary of music that i can be proud of. I don't want garbage in my libary.

If i look for things at random that look interesting i look for certian things:

*A load of stoned looking hippies with long hair
*A crap cover
*familliar artists (e.g. hey Chick Corea is on this so theres gonna be some dope keys!)
*Instruments: organ, guitar, sax, synth, vibes, etc
*familliar Label (Atlantic, Blue Note, Kudu, etc)
*A picture of someone near an old dusty synth
*A naked chick on the cover
*A spaceship?
*any late 60s early 70s band that ends their name in experience, band, or something else sounding crazy
