sounds like your trying to dive into the deep end first. remeber the mpc was traditonally marketed as a drum machine / midi sequencer. It can be a synth is your want, but you'll need some knowledge on programs, looping waveforms, auto chromatic assignment.

stop ya whining, and start learning. you'll get no sympathy here, in saying your confused and you just bought the damm thing.

your a piece of s h it fool.take your posts to another forum,I heard hooked on phonics is doing a music for dummys class on broadway. you know what makes me mad about m fukers like you is you are always askin for hand outs instead of tryin to learn yourself. READ A BOOK DOG!!

No offence guys, but its confusing, even though one of you tried to help me within this thread. I looked at this guide I purchased and it already expected me to know how to create a program instead of just putting me through the stages and making me feel like I'm getting somewhere with it.

You guys think and/or recommend a synth that would let me load my own sounds in? I was looking at the Ensoniq ASR10, although the max memory was 4mb (I think I read) I kind of found that offputting.

If anyone fancies helping me in laymens terms, I may change my mind about the sale and give it a go, you never know, I may pick up things as I go along the scale of the things I want to do. I was even considering posting an ad in the paper looking for some tuition lol

I'm sorry to ask this mate, but maybe you got the wrong piece of equipment for your requirements.....?

If you're after something for sampling and sequencing, then the MPC is what you have and what you should be using it for. If you want a synth, then get a synth. Honestly, alot of people get on this forum and ask why they can't make their MPC sound like a Moog before they've even turned it on or found out what it's capabilities are.

And don't stress. I know next to nothing about music. I play the guitar terribly. Musical theory sounds like a head f*ck to me. But, I started with some really basic stuff.

Sure, the 2kXL has alot of features to learn, but all you should start with is learning how to record a sample, how to trim your sample up, THEN move onto other basic stuff like how to assign to a pad, how to record your sounds in a sequence, etc etc etc.

Don't try to run before you can even stand up, let alone walk. Give it time, practise, read alot and get yourself edumacated, mess with that box of tricks, and if you have questions, search the forums.

Unfortunately there's alot of people with little patience who enjoy shooting down noobs with even the most basic of questions. If you have a problem, just PM me.

Try sampling yourself playing a 4 bar guitar riff into the MPC, chop it into 16 pieces and make it a program across the pads. Now play the pads and rearrange your riff to fit your musical taste. You will hear patterns and rythems you would have never thought of playing before. Try sampling your low open e string and then tune and filter it to make a bass sound. Put into 16 levels and instant bass line! You play guitar right? Sample some distorted guitar and guitar with heavy effects, tune and filter and you have some synth sounds. While the MPC is not an instrument or at least it was never intended to be, once you master it you can make it one. All it takes is imagination, creativity, and expression. But like any other musical instrument, time must be put in to learn your instrument and craft. Youtube is an excellent place to learn tips on using an MPC. I use it all the time along with the manual and the Beat Making on the MPC ebook from this site. Put the time in to learn this wonderful piece of gear and I promise you won't regret it.

Once you sit down. and force yourself to repeat the basics....You will Evolve....The operating System is so simple. that when you learn the screens. it will all make sense... TRIMING AND EDITING/SAMPLING AND SEQUENCING.....



I read 1/3 of the manual ...... Tried it out ........IT Was FRUSTRATING

I read the same Manual again and highlighted the good stuff....
Bought some records and Got to it.......

Its all Experimentation........
