im not gonna get into the other questions yet but a lotta ppl been askin me bout the 1000 vs 2000xl vs 4000. i personally own every mpc.. but i only use the 1 and the 4. Technically the 4000 is the best machine of course.
It's rock solid and sturdy. It's not ALL good. I do have some issues with it. For one there is no Track shifting. Though i tend not to quantize that much anymore, when I do, I'll sometimes shift a track's timing earlier or later to give it a more "humanized" feel. (sometimes the "swing" option or a triplet is too much and a straight 1/16 is too stiff) Sadly, the 1000 just DOESNT do this right now.. its a simple programming issue so theres no reason they cant include it. hope they dont purposely leave it out 2 get u to eventually buy a more expensive MP. That'd be wack since it already does so much. Then again Akai is notorious for launching products without all their features intact and fixing them in software upgrades.. (another reason why the 4000 didnt fare well initially and caused a lot of backlash from producers) U can't play samples in reverse (programming again) and there arent a lot of sample editing options beyond trim and Normalize. basically what you've got in the 1000 is a box with just enuff functions to make a sample based beat and add sum midi overdubs. It's a scaled down 2000xl (it actually operates just like it for the most part) and for $800(?) u cant beat it. more on this later. i gotta
