Purchasing a mixer this weekend

Skiggy, ur right, a mixer by itself wont do the job, u need a multitrack recorder, specially if u want to record, mix and master. i got the roland vs2400cd works like magic.

hey scizz, would you recommend getting a digital recorder to go with an MPC, cuz I'm one of those people that likes to bring stuff out by mixing and I was wondering about the digital recorders because it seems like it would be good shit to have...

kINETIC, any decent recorder will do, its a queston of how many tracks u need, ur budget, and the equipment u got in ur studio. the MPC is compattible with almost anything outthere. look for:
1_24bit/96khz
2_# of tracks
3_# of simultaneous tracks it can record (between 8 and 16)
4_# of phantom powered tracks (if u use many mics)
5_expandability ( expand FX cards, inputs, preamp chips etc...)
6_back up (cd burner, USB, etc..)
7_Support (OS updates)
8_VGA out is a big plus

the scene is not that big u know (this year u got good shows eveywhere thow), u got a few headz with albums that are barely alright and the rest is terrible but the underground is gonna blow up soon (keep an eye out and an ear locked cos it's our turn). the labels got it all twisted its messed up that way but on the other hand the underground man!! the family is getting bigger by the week soon independant and hopefully if it's God's will : a full length album out before the end of the year.

word to the wise...there is a difference between the mackie 1202 and mackie 1202vlzpro. Ebay sellers try to fake you out on that all the time. On the back it should say Mackie VLZPRO.

slightly off topic but not really, has anyone heard about the new mackie onyx series of mixers, they look, well real nice.
they have a firewire connections, do you think this would send the eq'd and gain'd channels or would it be like sending a direct out to your computer, do you get me?........

The onyx series is wild, Im thinkin about sellin my DFX-12 and coppin the Onyx 1620. 4 band EQ with 2 sweepable mids.... Dopeness.

Also the firewire i/o is optional, it doesn't come standard. On their website though it says you can send 14 channels of audio through it.

I don't really know if I need a mixer, like skiggy said you can't save your mixer settings thats why I'm considering a multitracker or audio interface and not bothering with a mixer.
