Allen and Heaf Xone 02 vs. Rane Empath/TTM56/54i

which one of these would yall get, I'm thinking the A&H looks pretty dope, at first I was just concerned with sound quality and that's still my number one but I might start spinning (just blends) at a local hip hop night to make a little extra change (and sneak my beats in)

54i runs about 350 used
Empath about 550 used
56 around 500? used
A&H new at 460

I got an Xone:02 some while ago, and I like it. Sound and build quality is nice, I like the EQs, the dual inputs, the FX sends. Has everything you need, but no unnecessary gimmicks.

plus you'll prolly use a rane if you ever do gigs out at clubs

RANe is more of a standard then A&H

... all i got to say is you get what you pay for in the industry ...really..your performance relizes on it.

If you are going to do scratching get the TTM 56 the fader never wear out and are the best feeling and responding available.. The Empath is nice and I have both Ranes but for Hip Hop the TTM 56 takes the cake... The Empath is better for House or styles that would require 3 decks... They sound about the same and as far as build quality the faders on the 56 are far superior to the Empaths... The xone's faders are not as good... Starting out you will be glad you went with the 56 it will last you forever and nearly every Hip Hop DJ in the world swears by it...

Also the levels of each side are next to the faders..this may seem small but the Empath requires you to press a switch to view the levels of the monitored signal and it becomes a hassle... The Empath is also a bit cramped with features on the panel... I love the Empath but when I am spinning only 2 signals the 56 keeps it simple.. One thing I do like about the Empath is the XLR output.. The TTM56 is balanced as well but is 1/4" same signal really but I play alot of concerts where the sound guy will need to use a direct box on the 56.. I have my own because 80% of the time the house's DI's are jackked... Hope this helps and good luck!

If you are on more of a budget 2 mixers worth checking out are the Pioneer DJM 707 and Denon X300 really good mixers at about 1/2 the price you will pay for the Ranes .... the D X300 has the same brand faders as the Empath.. Penny and Giles.. and the DJM 707's are non contact and never wear out like the Rane!

The Denon and Pioneer have excellent sound quality as well..

Both are tight. I like the Rane's fader personally i think it feels better for cutting. The sound quality on both units are great quality but I recently used a H&Allen at gig and its sound quality really impressed me. If your just mixing only, I'd probably go with H&Allen. I'd recommend going to your local music store though, obviously, and checkin em out.

i have the ttm56 and i love it. i dont think i ever need to buy another dj mixer again

rane is a super duper company...their customer service has got to be the best i've ever had from a manufacturer--especially an audio equipment manufacturer. they always answer the phone--some of the numbers are direct lines to actual people, none of that automated sh*t. i love rane man....

so in short, if you really wanna dj seriously, pick up the ttm56. the fader is like butter.
