You can get by with just a pair of headphones for playback if needed. I love hearing my shit out of speakers, but you don't need it (although your eq may be off). What you need to buy depends on what you want to do. Some people (like me) sample off of records - if you want to do this, get a turntable, a preamp mixer and start diggin. Some people use keyboards (and other midi devices) look into midi keyboards, midi sounds modules, drum machines if you want to do this. I also hookup my guitar and bass to my MPC though an amp, but that's not such a common route.

Well i have some samples cut up already on the computer. I just want to assign them to pads. Then you know the drums blah blah. About the whole memory thing i want to upgrade the RAM but i keep seeing things about RAM and CF do i get both?

Well, RAM gives you more room to make a beat on the MPC, it allows you to have more samples loaded at a time, etc...

A CF card allows you to save your work (samples, programs, sequences, etc...) but you could just dump these files on your computer...
