:?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: Ok, I'm getting pretty good with this machine now but Im really getting frustrated with chop shop.

Everytime I chop shop a sample (equal parts) I go ahead and create a new program, but when i play back the samples on the new program it sounds like an obnoxious amount of reverb has been added to my samples...it muffles everything out and kills all the "punch and pop"...this is bad news bears yo.

I tried adjusting the release from 0 to highest setting and it still messes up mah shizz.

I can understand that you might get some weird artifacts added to your sound when using heavy decay/release settings because the mpc is basically adding extra data to stretch out the decay.... but if my release is set at zero, it should simply just cut it right there and leave me with the original sound and no bull shizz reverb?

I used to mess with recylce back in the day but im not sure if I really want to be moving files back and fourth from the computer and using translator software to convert stuff to create .pgm files

any input? advice? workarounds? :?:

Thanks guys...

Sounds like you're trying to chop a stereo sample. When you do that, the MPC only takes one channel of the sample, which might sound different than the original.

So you're saying that when you have a stereo sample and you chop it the mpc only chops the left or right and just dumps the other side? I know that's not true, but that's what it seems like you're saying.

Yes, that is true. Try it. Manual p. 69.

you can slice your stereo sample into individual hits by extracting them one by one. the dropping of the right channel only occurs if you use autochop or patched phrase.
maybe we 2500 users get a 2.0 os from akai with some of the long requested features like the 1k users got when akai included some features of the 2500 into that os2. but for now all our whishes got into the mpc 5000 or into the unofficial os... :?

i figure out that the track i was ssmpling had all the reverb panned over to the left. So i just sampled the right channel in mono and BAM!! Fixed.

I think im going to see what Akai comes up with on their next OS update (if they do another update) before i jump into the JJos which I will do for sure eventually.

Thanks for the input and help errybody.

If you have any triton or asr questions...holler at me.

peace and thanks again fellas

get the jjos man. you can chop stereo, among dozens of other great things.

yea any of the jj os's chop stereo. So make the switch.

Ha ha, I am using JJ and forgot that the regular o.s. might be different. That's ridiculously wack if it only chops mono though, ha ha wtf.

Akai has updated 5 times already, and it's a pretty stable OS by now.
