another zip drive question

sup yall

i tried the search, but didn't find a topic with exactly the same problem..

a while ago i switched from zip to a card reader and i still got those zip disks
with my older beats on em.. theres a few projects i'd still like to work on..

now i seen this usb zip drive for pc and i thought i might go for that, but i don't know if it'll be able to read my zip disks since i never formatted them for pc use...

is there a way to get this to work or am i gonna have to get a scsi zip-drive?

note that i don't need to edit the files on the pc in any way i just need to be able to copy them onto the pc and from there to the mpc via cf..

I believe this will solve your problem.

Power-off your zip drive. Make sure that one end is the DB25 (female). You will have to connect a SCSI cable with DB25 connectors (male) on both ends between the cable and your zip drive. Insert your Zip disk into your drive and connect the USB end to your computer.

Power up your zip drive. Your computer should recognize your zip drive and you should be able to access the files that you have stored on your zip disk.

You need to insert the CF into the card reader on your computer.

Highlight, drag and drop your files from your zip disk onto the icon for your Card Reader.

I tried this on the Mac G5 with OS X 10.4 and it worked for me.

right now i have no zip drive at all.. so if i'm gonna buy a usb zip drive
i wont need that converter..

if i'm gonna buy a scsi drive i can connect that to my mpc..

i'm just wondering if the pc can read my files via usb if the disk
aint formatted.

but i've never formatted my cf card either and it gets recognized by the pc
without any problems...

You are asking will the ZIP with USB work in recognizing your old disk that was created on SCSI ZIP. And you are interested in getting this USB ZIP drive if it recognizes you old disk format. I'm not sure but I think it should work. Of course that is a good point there from Lampdog.

Apologize for getting it a little crossed up. I ain't going to front though, I am not that up of Zip file management.

aight thanks.. i can't remember if they all shorter than 8 hope they are..

i was just thinking about the usb drive cause i saw one for real cheap on the bay..

i guess if i can get it for a low price i'm gonna give it a try...

you should be able to use any drive . . . scsi, usb, or even parallel. Which one to use? . . . it all depends on ports you have available on your computer. If you have a parallel port on your computer, then you can use a parallel drive. If you have a usb port on your computer, then you can use a usb drive. If you have a scsi port on your computer, then you can use a scsi drive.

if the filesnames are 8 characters or less, then you will not have a problem. If not editing, just copy from one medium to the other.

This should work...


save your all pgs/seq/sounds/ to another Zip disk via MPC 2k/xl

GET MPC EDITOR. This thing ($ 29) has a MPC to PC formatter. You can download it. And then format your 1st zip disk. (youll lose all your files...thus having a backup to another 2nd zip disk)

Then you transfer from the 2nd Zip disk to the new Formatted Zip disk. After you can then transfer it to your PC.

And also makes new programs via MPC Editor. Beautiful program.
