Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

my mpc 2k classic has been working fine since i got it a couple months back. the mpc has the stock RAM. i used it 3 days ago with no problems. today i used it and when i went to the sample screen it would freeze up. i could see the bars from the sound but i could not record, use the data wheel, cursor, or return to the main screen. it does this whether i sample in stereo or mono. i made it past the sample screen a few times, but when i went to trim and zonedit it froze again. ne help?

As stock RAM I understand that you have 2 MB to use right ? Maybe you just run out of sampling time?
By the way, my mpc 2kxl sometimes needs some time when after working for a while I want to sample some more sounds into memory. It looks like it freezes up for like 6 or 7 seconds and then goes to sampling screen as normal. After that it's ok.

yes its 2mb of sample time. 21 sec. mono and about 10 stereo. ill have like 8 seconds of sample time left and it will still freeze in trim mode. it will sometimes even freeze while a sample is being played in trim mode causing the sample to skip. it seems to only freeze when i sample an outside source. when i load saved samples from floppys it works good. i have no idea whats going on cuz it worked fine the other day.

um, You have to think of the Mpc as a computer First and than a sequencer.....You should try upgrading the Ram.. Even though there is Eight seconds Left i think you may be overworking the machine whil it trys to process....

Example: I have my XL with 32(maxed out)
1. i want to stretch a Loop of 4 bars from 96bpm to 90 bpm...

With an empty Ram.. it takes maybe 25 seconds....

If i have 20seconds left of sample time.it may take 5 minutes

and this is with Maxed Ram...

Your sounds work great from Floppy disc because they are saved and already filed as WAV or SND......

you should try more RAM...........small upgrade, BIG difference in Workflow//////

yeah im waiting for my upgrade right now. should be here in 3 days. hopefully that works. i just made a copy of the o.s and put it on a fresh disc. the mp is working fine right now. hopefully it stays that way
