After reading many reviews, I decided to buy an MPC500. I also have a bit of PC music software (Reason 3, Acid 6, Sound Forge 8, Nuendo, Wave, to name a few) but I haven't really familiarized myself that much with the software as career and family life have always been paramount.
I've been a DJ for 20+ years (primarily house music, then hip hop, r&b and classic) and have a respectable knowledge of DJ'ing, records and music, and I have what I feel are great ideas to do productions and remixes. I never wanted to make music just for the sake of making it (which is what a lot of people want to do nowadays, just like now everyone wants to be a DJ); I wanted to because I felt I have something to contribute, and after all these years I finally feel I do.
I now want to utilize what spare time I do have and get creative with making music but I readily admit that I'm a bit lost with trying to find a starting point, so any good advice I can get is defintely appreciated. I have just a few questions and hope that the good people of this message board will point me in the right direction.
1. I've perused the Akai MPC500 manuals that came with the MPC500, and as technically detailed as they are, I'm wondering if the "Beat Making for the Akai MPC500" manual being touted for $39.99 on the Internet would be worth the investment, and would it help facilitate the learning curve? Are the tutorials that good? Do they really provide step-by-step instructions that can help me?
2. What are the good and trustworthy websites for purchasing and downloading various types of beats and samples?
3. Is (any of) the software that I already have the right software to accompany the creative / beatmaking process with the MPC500? Are there any other ESSENTIAL software or other peripherals that I should have?
