I need help syncing up MPC to Cool Edit for tracking...

What up fam! I need your help...I don't know what I'm doing!

What I want to be able to do is track my beats out into cool edit. I don't have the 8 outs etc etc. so I have to record the tracks one by one. I would like to be able to sync my MPC to cool edit so that the recorded tracks will all be in sync. What I would like to do is to be able to hit play on the MPC and have it synced so cool edit will start recording at that exact same time.

Please...I need the help!

Oh yeah, If you ever have a question on Cool Edit, he posts at UGHH.com in the producer forum. Just put up a question and he gets back to you mad quick...

all you have to do is make sure you midi is all setup mpc midi out > midi in on pc and vice versa. On your mpc have the midi out setup up for midi clock. Then in Cool edit hit F6 and F7 you should be set up. Hit play on the mpc and you should be recording. Alot of times for some reason Cool edit cuts off the first milliseconds of the track so what I do is setup a time sig seq on my mpc. Make a 4 bar seq. with just hi hat hits on on each bar then put that at the beginning of your track in song mode that way you can make sure everything is lined up and you can record your whole song without cool edit cutting off the first millisecs

Ok...I followed the directions there to a T and it's still a no go. I need help exactly with the part he left out in the article. I don't know how to configure my midi set up in my PC and in Cool Edit. Like how to set up the correct devices for the Midi ins and outs, and device order. I'm confused as heck with this shit, but I don't have a mixer or multi track, so I have to make due with CEP2.

Can anyone here help me from this point?

hit OPTIONS in CEP or Adobe same ish, then hit DEVICE PROPERTIES then there hit the MIDI IN tab and make sure to select whatever device you are using for midi on your PC then do the same for the MIDI OUT tab hit OK on the bottom right. Try this if still no go let me know

Ok, Here's a list of the devices I see under Device Properties: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, MPU-401, and Midi Mapper. I'm not sure which of these to pick as ins and outs.

Basically How I have it hooked up is I have the Midi cable hooked up to Midi Out A on the MPC, and I have the other end plugged into the Joystick/Midi Port of my PC. I have an E-machine PC, and an MPC 4k. I have no Idea if my PC actually has a "midi interface" or not...I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.

Is this enough info.?

Basically after everything is set I should just be able to select SMPTE Slave Enable then hit Play on the MP and it should start recording automatically in CEP right?

you have to select midi trigger enabled also (f6)

also make sure u have a track in CEP setup to record the red R

However it's still not working! I had Midi Trigger enabled from the get go. I didn't know about clicking the little red R on the track you want to record on though.

no prob man, only other thing I can think of is checking the midi settings for you PC go to control panel then open up sounds and audio devices on that window look for anything that has to do with midi and make sure that MPU-401 is selected thats your midi interface, Other than that I dont know what it is man might have to check your mpc to make sure its setup properly cause CEP looks like its ready to go.

I got it working now! Yo thanks Fortune! I feel like a real idiot. On the midi cable it has an in and out on the same end. I plugged the one labeled out to the Midi A out...I thought those were supposed to correspond. I guess not. I have to plug in the part of the cable labeled Midi-In into the Midi-out jack. Yo this shit is frustrating, but I'm glad I got it now. I do know my shit better now that I had to go through all that mess though. HAHA. Thanks again!

Is that the only way around that problem? Does it still do that if the set up is the other way around with cool edit as the master?

I'll definitely try your suggestion, but what I think I will do is put an empty sequence right before. An sequence with pad hits recorded but without a sample loaded in the pad...that should do the trick.
