so, I have an MPC1000 right now and I am getting an MPC2500 at the end of the month.

My question is should I get and MPD24 to work with Reason, Live and Logic 8 or should I just use the MPC1000 as my Midi controller. I also have a Novation ReMOTE 25SL as my keyboard controller, but no pads  .

If you have a 2500 and a 1000 I don't see any point in getting a pad controller.

it's really personal preference. I personally wouldnt get myself a 2500 for the fact that the jjos updates pretty much make the 1000 a standalone workhorse, other than a couple extra buttons. thats my preference. not saying that you shouldnt. if you do get the 2500, play with it and make sure that you want to replace your 1000 for it. you might feel otherwise. if you decide to keep the 2500, i would say go with the mpd. I use my 1000 as a standalone and as my reason controller, but you might want the extra contol of the sliders and knobs with your software. it is pointless to keep both mpcs considering they are closely related. try it all out and go with what you are more comfortable with. Good Luck.

Thanks.

keep in mind I have a Novation ReMOTE 25SL as well, so the MPCs would be supplement to the keyboard/control surface.

Also, I am going with the MPC2500 for use in the studio and might be sending one to my collaboration partner in San Antonio. So I would be using it for sure.

The novation comes with sliders and knobs and, well, should have pads. But you can either automap the novation to reason or manually edit the controllers control in reason. i would say save the cash and hook the mpc up with the sl. you will have full control. there is really no reason for the mpd, unless you hate turning your mpc on.

right on. I needed that 3rd party influence, kind of like that look from the outside response.

Funny thing is that whenever I go to Guitar Center or wherever I see the MPD or Trigger Finger I feel like I have to get one of them units. But I know I don't really need it since I have the equipment already. Plus my MPC1000 has the new pads, because I installed it... and they feel wonderful.

So I have another post about how much MPC control do I have using it as a Midi controller. Would you happen to know off the top of your head?

i dont know the full specs on midi data from the mpc to software. my setup is mpc to mbox, mbox to computer. I have control over sounds by pressing pads, transport controls minus record (you can record the midi into mpc but not into reason as well. this is established by deactivating/having record enable &/or midi buttons off on all racks.) http://www.tweakheadz.com/midi_controllers.htm
This is a link to tweakheadz. it talks about midi cc's and how they are used. don't really know all of that tech stuff, but I did hear that there are ways to have more control with your mpc in your DAW.

well, I am planning this setup:

1. MacBook Pro running Reason or Ableton rewired to Logic
2. MPC1000 to an M-Audio Uno
3. NI Audio 8 DJ sound card
4. Novation ReMOTE 25SL

so basically I want to run the MPC1000 as a pad controller and whatever I might need for slider control in conjunction with the Novation Controller.

That is a nice setup. Like I said, I believe there are ways to use the slider and the record buttons, but I haven't really tried to understand the Tweakheadz explanation. Experiment with it. If you figure it out, let me know how you did it. Audio 8 dj is a sweet interface. I can't wait to get mine. Do you use traktor scratch?

Using the MPC1000 as a pad controller seems strange.....Even the mpd-16 has better pads, at least than the old ones.

Why buy an MPD 24 for the sliders, that's like getting a happy meal just for the toy.....some people do it but its not efficient.

To me, if I had the Novation SL to do synth controls, and the MPC-2500 to sequence and sample, I would want something to mix on....Like the Mackie Baby HUI, or a Behringer BCR (Although I never used one I hear good things....Midi implementation much better than the HUI though) or something bigger...

Anyway, your Novation basically suns the MPD 24, although the MPD feels better it doen't have some useful midi features, trust me on that one.

So basically, in order to add productively to what you already have, you would need something with motorized faders. Since you already have the SL, you basically only need faders to mix on, right?

thanks!

I realized my setup is more like this:

1. MacBook Pro running Reason or Ableton rewired to Logic
2. MPC1000 to an M-Audio Uno
3. NI Audio 8 DJ sound card
4. Novation ReMOTE 25SL
5. Audio 8 DJ Piped into a Pioneer DJM-909 Mixer
6. External e-SATA HD piped into an e-SATA Expresscard in the MacBook Pro
7. 1 Numark TTX Turntable SPDIF into the MPC1000 Line Out to the DJM-909.

it's a big setup and takes about 15-30 minutes with setup and boot up time. That's for a show, but for studio work I don't usually hook up the TTX.

Oh, and yes I have Traktor 3 and Traktor Scratch as well as a TTM57SL. I use the TTM57SL when I am in Turntable Ministry for performances, but for production I use the above setup.

I used to have the MPD24. I loved it, but since it did not work on my Dell D610 (Intel chipset conflict) I returned it to Guitar Center and bought an MPC1000 instead. I did not realize at the time that the MPC1000 had the crappy pads... well, in December 2007 I installed the new pads, and it feels like a 2500/2000/MPD24 now, AWESOME!

and so my point was to use the MPC1000. I was considering using the MPC as my master sequencer, but I am not sure how much work is involved with doing so... ie programming and what not.

I don't know about logic or live, but reason is real simple to hook up. Sparq has a vid on youtube. Its called How To Use Reason As A Sound Mod. Do What it says and your good to go. I created a template with the racks I normally use, so I don't need to keep programming, it's already done. Try it out.
