How do you guys track?

I was just curious because there are many ways in doing it. Do you guys sequence the whole song with the MPC and other keyboards or do you track every channel from the MPC to the computer. Big studios track everything from the DAW on it own channel strip with a Neve or SSL console: kicks by itself, snares by itself and so-on. How do you guys track?

I track each sound on a single track every time cuz you never know what you might want to change.

I track one sound per track. My MPC has 8 outs and my soundcard has ADAT opticals so I track all 8 outs simultaneously. Usually I can track a whole song in 2 passes. Since my sound modules only have stereo outs I still have to track them one at a time. I run the 8 uts on the MPC to a Behringer digital 8 and then run the ADAT opticals from the digital 8 to the soundcard.

Keeping all your sequences on seperate tracks (ie KICK-Track1, SNARE- Track2.....) is very handy for when it comes time to record and mix your tracks. So it's probably best to keep it this way. However it depends what you wish to do. If I'm making something on the fly, I sometimes record whole drum Breaks into each track. Then you can have up to 64 (tracks) variations of a beat which you can alternate between by using the TrackMute screen. You can come up with some cool random rythms this way.

USUALLY i track one at a time, UNLESS the song is real extensive and complex, since the DIGI001 only has 32 tracks, i ain't got too many to waste.... so if it's too extensive, i just mix down in ma MPC and 2 track

I track one sound per track. My 2000XL has 8 outs, and my 60-2 has 8 outs, also I have a Mo Phatt. All outs go to my Soundcraft Spirit 24 channel 8 bus mixer. I bus the sounds to my korg d1600 which is my recorder. Then I burn on a tascam cdrw700.

I track in sweeps. First I lay down a basic beat, then I build the rest around it and record all the parts as they get finished. Then I go back to the beats.
