I need some advice...

Here at home, i have a nice lil variety of production equipment..

Motif 8,
Stanton STR8-30.....
Nothin big, but enuff 2 make tight shyt...

And though that seems aight... here's ma problem, i'll be goin 2 school this fall, and even though it's only bout 30 miles from tha crib, and i COULD commute if i wanted to... i'll be livin on dorm...

The dorms are teeny tiny... and i know for a FACT i can't get a big azz motif 8, a turn, and a MPC... so my thing is this.. i only wanna take ONE piece of equipment...

Now my first idea was... okay, i'll be home ery weekend, so i'll just cop Reaons and a midi controller, even though i been tryin my best to stray away from the computer thang.... this still seemed like an okay idea, just to be able 2 drop somethin while i'm in school.... BUT!!!.... (Yes there is always a but)..

I play the piano for a church, and am gonna be commuting back and forth between the church and school (bout 50 miles apart), and i'm gonna need SOMETHING to practice on... which means i'm gonna need some sort of 61 key keyboard... EVEN though i already have a motif...

I would just cop a sound module and a midi controller, but then i can't make any beats on it.....

Maybe i should just get a 61 key workstation? Which one? Fantom? I'm not doin triton, thats already out of my head....

I just got me a 61 key M-Audio Radium controller and I love it. as far as getting it in your dorm room, it's pretty light wieght and durable. All you really need to do for storage is lean it up against a wall or inside your closet, and since it can be powered by USB it should be ideal for a laptop or PC.

I would cop the Motif ES6 if I were you. You're already familiar with the interface, and it'll be an upgrade from your "regular" Motif...

the 61 key Radium might be a straight idea.... but i wouldn't mind coppin some good sounds in a workstation... i dunno, i'm lost.... as for the ES6, man that board is lovely, but i don't wanna have a Motif Classic and a ES, and i ain't willin 2 give up my Motif, cuz it's been ma trusty partner since i've been makin tracks...

The MPC doesn't take up a lot of space. The Radium and MP can be midied together. You can buy the multisample piano kits from this site which are supposed to be great....Take a zip drive and disks of all the sounds you want to work with on the MPC during the week, and when you go home on the weekends get some new sounds. The 2xl ain't big and it's durable as flowers too. It could fit in your closet, or under your bed or in a dresser drawer when your not using it if your really tight for space. If you have a computer desk in your dorm...you might be able to fit the MP on there and say put your motherboard on the floor or something. I think it's doable!

I don't use a lot of samples though, i mean i sample ery now and then, but not too much, i'm a pianist, and tend to stick more towards keyboard, played out beats..... so i'd have to have SOME kind somethin where it won't be all samplin...

But since you put it that way about being a pianist...maybe Decept is right. Get a workstation and maybe sell your other joint, or not sell it...whatever! My thinking was more along the lines of using your MPC as a sound module.

Or get the controller and use soft synths on your PC. Even Fruity Loops has a ton of those.

i wasd considering that too.... but i HATE sequencing on the computer man.... i hate it hate it hate it so much.... i hate 2 be difficult.... i might just cop a workstation, i dunno, i'm not gonna do the ES6 though... i was thinkin maybe a fantom, but i wanna peep some more possibilities first.. man i'm lost on this whole shit
