Sorry for the 1000 dis, I've never actually used one--just messing around.
Most professional musicians use the 950 over the 900. The 950's memory can be expanded to 3X the memory of the 900, and it's maximum sampling rate is a little higher. Other than that, they're pretty much the same machine.
Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Public Enemy, among others, have used an s900 or s950. Premier still uses it as his main sampler.
Maybe there was something wrong with yours.
I'd love to hear a track you've done using the 1000. I don't know a whole lot about it.

I thought it was generally accepted that the S950 sounds better than the S900. They *are* similar, but the MPC60, S900 and S950 all sound slightly different. IMO.

I dunno man. Everything I've heard says that the 900 and 950 sound exactly the same (except the 950 has a max sample rate of 44khz instead of 40khz on the 900). The 60 def sounds different though.

I've compared the same sample on the 60 and 900. Pretty noticeable difference between 60 (40khz) and 900 at max sample rate (40khz). 60 has more high end (lpf disabled on the 900).
Have you actually compared them? I'm pretty sure anyone with a decent set of ears could tell the difference.

Well...guess we're going to disagree with each other on this one.
