MPC and Triton Rack

Just wondering if someone that has a Triton Rack and an MPC 1000, could give me some pointers on how to MIDI the Triton Rack to the MPC in order to sequence some keys? Thanks in Advance!!

Should be pretty straight forward. If you haven't done it before, start by hooking the Triton MIDI In to the MPC Out A, set the MIDI Channel to "1A", and hit a few pads.

Then you can start embedding Bank and Program changes in Tracks to set up the Triton. Do you have a MIDI keyboard? Hook it up to either MIDI IN and set the MPC's MIDI Thru mode as you like it (I prefer "As Track").

The standard Pad - MIDI mapping is not too logical, so you'll find it hard to play tunes on the Triton from the Pads. The K5000S Programs on my site have the Pad - MIDI remapped into Chromatic (64 notes in order) and Octave (1 octave per page), and work fine with internal samples or external MIDI devices like my Kawai K5000S or your Triton.

Thanks for the reply. I don't wan't to use the pads to play the Triton Rack sounds. I have a midi keyboard hooked up to the Triton Rack and I am wanting to go from the Triton Rack into the MPC.

Gotcha - in that case, have a look at http://stereoroid.com/sounds/mpc1000/faq.php#pads06 for my preferred way of doing it. (Just ignore the Local Off stuff which you don't need to worry about here.)
The key point is: if you set MIDI Thru on the MPC1000 to "As Track", then it becomes a MIDI router.
- You can leave your keyboard on e.g. MIDI Channel 1, hook its MIDI Out to either MPC MIDI In.
- Hook up the Triton to either MIDI Out A or B
- change the MIDI parameter on the MPC's Main screen to route the MIDI to 32 different channels (16 channels x 2 outs).
- That setting applies to the selected track, so when you do it that way, recording MIDI to the sequencer is a breeze, what you hear is what you get. You just need to think about sending the right MIDI out, e.g. program changes.
