
bassline, like drums are all about the groove.....velocity, note placement and note length are essential to this.....try setting up your bass patch so its responsive to dynamics....maybe set the filter to respond to velocity, maybe create a little peak in the filter env to pronouce the attack...
set the patch to respond to note-off but fudge loop it so you can fake a small tail- set the decay on your env to 5-15......
also maybe set the attack-vel to 5 so the patch has a slightly softer attack on quieter notes....
after you bass patch is set up play your bass line with no quantize on over and over again until you feel its right....perhaps copy your pattern 32 times so you can keep playing over the top until you find the bar that is best.....
use the step edit to then go in and fine edit the hits...maybe shift the placemenet if need be....make sure the hits are not all the same velocity- high vel for accents and a lower for grace notes etc....also look at the duration of the notes...
