Hey there, am a new user of the 2500.
Has the 128 memory upgrade but no internal HD or CD extras. Has a 2gig cf card.

Recently on a load up from cf card I noticed a whole bunch of new folders contained within a particular 'parent' folder. They were all named in a crazy mix of numerals, chinese characters, and just general rubbish. Un openable at any level too.

I removed them via usb and laptop, then upgraded OS system to 1.23 -which runs fine so far!

I have tho, lost that entire 'parent' folder although I had only removed the strange folders that had appeared within it.

Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know how the folders appeared in the first place i.e. is this a glitch of the previous 1.0 OS system? Or maybe the way I saved?

Found nothing related to this issue in manual.

I have indeed spotted a similar issue. I was running OS 1.21 and had a 40GB HD.
At first i didn't know what was going on as when i atempted to load somehting from the internal HD, if i was unlucky i would stumble across one of these kanji folders which would then corrupt the display of my MPC. When I connected my MPC to the PC i could see these folders that contained these strange KANJI files but i could not delete/copy/move it (So of course backing up a 40GB HD would take ages as these files were everywhere)

In the end i had to do like you. Save what i could from my HD, Upgrade to the latest 1.23 OS then reformat my HD. As yet all is well, but those folders just came out of nowhere!!!

sounds like a corrupt folder to me. or a recovery folder perhaps?

@ barznbeats

Which OS are you running?
Since i upgraded to 1.23 and reformatted my HD all has been well. I have even been able to create new folders without the MPC crashing! I just want to know if it was the OS's fault or as Dablunt said it was a corrupt folder.

I had emailed AKAI about this issue but fixed it myself before they got back to me LOL.

i dont know if this applies here, but i know with the MV 8000, if you connect to a PC while windows media player is open, WMP will corrupt all of your files.

I would also blame viruses and metadata indexing software - none of these should be allowed to touch the MPC2500 drive mounted on the computer.
