i have recently bought a 2500 and installed the jj os.

i've come accross a feature in the 'midi/sync' (pad 9) page called 'default assign' which i find very usefull, although i can find nothing about it in my akai or jj manuals and every time i turn off my machine it loses the settings... i've tried pressing the main key whilst turning off the machine but that does'nt seem to help....

any suggestions..

found it on page 90 the 'proper' manual, it's not a jj feature so i'm in the wrong part of the forum.

but still i have no way to save the settings. unless i save a 'set up' as an all file????

any suggestions????

it will be saved into the internal memory and your default settings will be set every tie you turn the mp on!

Peace!

thank's for the tip

and this is what i assumed should happen, but every time i turn the machine on the settings revert to the original note numbers!!!

and it won't save the settings in a project file either!!!

so on your machine is it this simple???

note numbers????

note numbers are stored with program data, NOT DEFAULT!
you will have to store a program with your selected note numbers and load it or auto load it when you turn on the mpc!

And please read the manual, it will tell you everything to do with basic mpc setting!

Peace!

yes note numbers.....

midi note numbers.... as in

pad a1 = c# = midi note no 37,
pad a2 = c = midi note no 36
pad a3 = f#1 = midi nore no 42
... and so on

yes obvoiusly these settings are automatically stored in a program if you change them (or not).....

but i''m talking about a feature, that when you press 'mode/pad 9' and then press the 'midi' tab for the 'default assign' page, allows you to re-map the midi note numbers for newly created programs ..... thus each time you create a 'new' program it is set to these 'new' note numbers......

a brilliant feature considering i've just spent 10 years with a 2000 having to load a self made 'blank' program by floppy (each time i want to make a new sound set) of new note number assignments just so i can have an order from my mpc that corresponds to my midi keyboard..... so in my case thats

pad a1 = c1 = midi note no 36
pad a2 = c#1 = midi note no 37
pad a3 = d1 = midi note no 38
.... and so on

but not so brilliant because the settings i make on the 'default assign' page will not save when i switch my new machine off.... nor when it save 'all the data' in the machine in a project file....

which just seems a little odd to me. as we are given a feature that saves time and effort and i don't seem to be able to save the settings

do you have any experience with this function....

and if so how do you save the settings because i do not seem to be able to find a way in the manual..... not in the last paragraph on pg 90 where you will find reference to 'default assign'.... nor in the first paragraph on pg 106 where you might be led to believe you could 'save all the data' in the machine.... nor even pages 9 and 10 where we may learn about basic operation.

jj's manual does not reference my problem on his memorized set up page either, but then it's not his feature so i would not expect him to.

i truly hope somebody can tell me i'm dumb for missing something obvious.... because this is starting to wind me up!

i've had no reply so i'm bringing my post back to the top.... although i'm aware i'm in the wrong part of thr forum, maybe a moderator could move the thread to the normal 2500 list???.....please.

.....as this quirk is still giving me a bit of a headache.....

i guess the default assign page is not considered to be a very important feature by many people due to the lack of response to my question?

i have exactly the same issue bro, and have just about given up. i can't figure it out for the life of me despite doing exactly what it says in the manual, on both jj and akai os. i know there's a way, people aren't hooking keyboards up to their 2500s? come on...

i've emailed akai about this too by the way- no reply as of yet (sent sunday)

at least i know i'm not going nuts just yet......

please let me know IF they get back to you about this.

you're right, it doesn't save those settings anywhere. it's only used while you have the machine on and when you turn it off it resets back to the default.

Yeah. If I want this I load a program called 'blank' before I do anything, in which I have assigned all pads to "sensible" midi notes.
Methinks that this is your best option.

Scrap that!!!
I'm talking rubbish!!!

the thing with loading a custom blank program as the solution is that you're gonna have to stop using the 'create new program' when you chop a sample and start doing it manually, which would be a real ballache. akai got back to me but misread my question and told me i had to save before i turned off the mpc or my samples would be gone. haven't had another reply since i emailed back though

just had confirmation from akai that this is impossible. this could be one of the single most useful additions to the jjos.

i hitted upon this problem long ago, it´s so illogical they made a default assign screen but the settings are not safed ,only in programs (but that´s not useful if you create a new program from a choped sample)

with this and some other problems i can´t reproduce the thoughts of the developers of the 2500
