need advice on wheather to go with the 60 or the 3000 please

I was wondering if anybody who has owned both the mpc 60 and the 3000 could help me out on a decision of which one to buy.I'm only using the mpc for sequencing and drums.I want to be making money selling beats to hip-hop artists and stuff.Is the 60 to dirty for commercial tracks?.Which one sounds better for hip-hop?Do they have the exact same sequencer?Which one is used more now a days by famous hip-hop producer's.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks alot!

The 3000 is used more. I haven't owned a 3000, but I've used it and I own a 60. For your purposes I would get a 3000. You say you will only use it for sequencing, but I have a feeling that you will grow into it and end up wanting the sampling time and filters of the 3000.

It really doesn't matter in your case. If you get the 60, I have a feeling you will want the 3000 anyway.

The 3000 Sounds good, the 60 sounds good. But for your purposes, Get the 3000 Unless money is an issue, but you won't save that much with a 60 these days since you have to usually do some upkeep before it is in tip top like a backlight. Plus, you really need the upgrades.

From experience, get the 3000. I started out with an MPC 60 mk II

Since your talking about wanting to sell tracks, there are many sync problems associated with the 60. When you go to dump your hot track in the studio, the engineer will hate you. The 3000 has much better features anyway.

Further, the gritty sound your looking for should be mostly controlled from your sample input. For example, if your sampling from a turntable and mixer, make sure your using a mixer with an equalizer. Everyone would like to associate that raw sound with the sampler but it's also the sample source and the user experience.

sync problems? I doubt that. the 60 is rock solid, I would chaulk up sync problems to midi connection issues or inexperience. It even has FSK, click and smpte for christsake!

sounds good.My gut's tellin me to go with the 60 with rogerlinn 3.10 maxed out.

id just say buy depending on how much sample time u want
the 60 is so dope if u can handle the small memory, wicked for drums, but once u start looping up riffs it gets maxed out fast

Why would you trust me?

1. I have a degree in record engineering.
2. I am a producer.
3. I have platinum records under my belt. (No I will not list them or tell you who i really am)
4. I know the MPC-60 and MPC 3000 like the back and front of my hand.

It is not as easy as just hitting the sync button. With the older MPCs we had to use a sync box because with the SMPTE tracks that the MPC is supposed to generate there are drop outs. When you use an external SMPTE generator and attempt to read with the 60 it still experiences problems. Even if you rent one (which always ends up being the worst) for your session in the studio, there is still problems.

Like I said before the SMPTE or sync thing is just one of many limited functions. Why limit yourself. IF YOU WANT TO SELL TRACKS and use what the big boys use, the MPC 3000 is the standard PERIOD....

Why get a Pinto when you can get a 328i. If money is the issue then keep rubbing nickels together until you got it but IT'S WORTH IT.

OK well Specify Smpte, I usually track with midi and have zero problems. Smpte hasn't given me problems, but I've only used it a couple of times.

also, what OS was this 60 running? I'll do more SMpte tests and report back. Most machines are finiky about smpte levels, but you know that.
