Lets talk about "SWING"

Whats Up,

New to the forum, and MPC 2000xl. After about of year of being around them I finally gave in a got one and I'm pretty happy!

So here is the deal...

I started making a drum beat today for an older song I demoed a few months back. I decided to bypass the CLICK since I liked the Swing of the original take (no click). I recorded everything fine and noticed that the MPC has a bit of a mind of its own...kinda re working the track a little bit.

I know this sounds pretty abstract and I wish I could describe it more concretely, however, I'm hoping that I just left something on or off...and could maybe get some help/insight to the situation.

turn timing off if you want the mpc to record exactly how you played it. If you have any type of timing on its going to grid to that closest note value...then adjust swing from there to how u want it. experiment. But for your case that you were describing, just turn timing off.

63% is the best setting for House.

With timing off, it records exactly what you give it. It's your own timing and practice that you are listing to at that point. Most people just aren't use to hearing themselves exactly raw like that. It's true though, timing off, is ALL you, lol.

I know what it was... I had Timing on while recording and it was quantizing it to the nearest 16th note...I was playing 8ths....

Ok now I got it...
