i dont think their aim with this is to smash all the other bullschit dropping lately... i think they are more focused on making it an original piece of gear that has more possibilities than just what it looks like it has on the surface...

the adrenalinn and the blackbox were pretty innovative and inspirational gear imo... mix that with the potential sound of something like the evolver or the prophet and this thing will be a great toy to have that opens alot of doors to creative thoughts in musical composition...

all i know is EVERYONE with even a slight bit of gearwhore in them will be wanting one of these...

these guys are making gear because its their passion, not because they need the $$$$$$

the point is to make an innovative piece of gear unlike anything b4, i have recorded songs for bands who wanted to hear my stuff after their session is done and i usually play it from the MPC and do live change ups and constantly add other sounds, its much more dynamic then just hitting play on itunes....
so in essense i am more "playing the mpc" than simply programming it, i'm guessing the linn drum II will facilitate this kind of application even more

I hope they use good quality parts and good metals and they dont build this in China.

It would be nice if they really put there heart into m,aking this siund as good as the Mpc 60 or 3000 or ASR ...12 bit or 16 bit would be great and good sturdy pads like the 60 and a nice big old tyle looking screen and the whole thing completely made out of metal with all the features of the old and more.
Basically I would like them to look inside thereselves and create the best sounding audio fidelity known to those 2 men

But main thing ...will they make it for the money or for the love?
Those Ensoniqs from America sound so good to me and so does my XL from China.

Noy much but its my 2 cents

just read this today in the specs of the boomchik

"Stereo inputs for sampling, audio processing or triggering sounds."

:P

nice! now if you can tweak the samples with the analog synth section of the boomchik, this is giong to be extra-nice

Looking at the quality of the MPC's that Roger helped design compared to the quality of the later models makes me want this machine way more than the 2500, 4000, or the 5000. My MPC 3000 is bulletproof. I've been banging out beats on this thing for over 10 YEARS and it has NEVER seen the inside of a repair shop. I have no doubt the quality and features will be what real MPC users are looking for. Dont forget this is the man who was AKAI. No disrespect to the later models, BUT, they just dont feel right. I feel like I have to be gentle with newer machines so they dont cry...

I think what you are noting about the old MPCs has more to do with the fact that those units were made in Japan, using good components. Akai Pro is now a US company and all the manufacturing is done in China/Taiwan, which translates to cost cutting (i.e. crappy components and cheap labor) being one of the biggest means to boost the bottom line. That's why the new MPC's have such crappy build quality. Have you seen Akai's latest midi controller? Talk about crap. The keys feel like sh*t and the pads are awful.

As an Evolver owner, I can tell you that Dave Smith builds his instruments like tanks, so I'm sure Roger and Dave will not skimp on this thing. If this thing had all of the chopping/sequencing abilities of the MPC, I would definitely switch.

That's if I understand it correctly that samples will be able to stream off the card, rather than have to be loaded into ram.

Imagine being able to have 4GB of samples ready to go without having to load them up!

I wasn't aware that computer technology existed allowing one to access digital media without it being loaded into RAM or any other form of temporary memory.

Oh right... it doesn't exist. :)
