Start from page 11 and don`t skip anything. But pages 26 and 27 explains the program matrix more.

Read all of it until it sinks in. But the addendums are more in tune to the 4k`s current structure. Remember basically a sampler is a specialize synth.

yes, these samplers are. but most mpc's are drum samplers. even the latest one is a drum sampler with an onboard synth. the mpc4000 is as far as I know the only mpc with the ability to create synth patches

By the way, are these normal prices these days?

That is so true most mpc are drum phrase samplers. But most people switching to a 4k at the beginning still work in that frame of mind failing to realize the potential of a full sampler in their hands. Remember a sampler is an extension of a synth.

Keep a keyboard controller for your 4k and go to work building sounds.

just got the hollow sun catalog... when sounds eventually loaded they were great, but.. just curious how 4000 users manage these extreme slow load times? it almost makes using keygroup programs not possible. how in god's good green can anyone be productive with these load times?

the mv-8000 shows up as a mounted hard disk on the host computer -the mpc5000 does this too. i may have seen smaller files loaded on the mv (i don't think so though) -but it was inexplicably faster than the 4000. am i missing something? is the s-5000 same speed as 4000?

oh my god... i just hooked up a mv and 4000 together. i programmed a 140 bpm cheezy beat because my family likes that sort of thing (tried to make it the same pattern while recording on both).. both were triggering the mv sounds.. there is something wrong with the mv's sequencer really (or pads or something) -the 4000 sounds typical 4000 quantize -but the mv sounds absurd really in comparison -had i not used the mv's sounds for both i would trash the mv immediately -but- the 4000 sounded like the 4000 while using the mv as its sound module -hence the mv sampler is not the issue...
