timing correct ?

im having trouble understanding timing correct what does this do how can it help my recording any can help me out much apreciated

Are you talking about quantising? If so, all it does is shifts the notes as you play them real time to either 1/8, 1/16/ or 1/32. So the note will shift accordingly and be more onpoint. I find it useful when working with drums and bass but, once I get onto recording my melodies I record without quantise to make it as natural as possible. It just makes everything more solid that way. That answer your question?

Yea just stick with it on ur drums and ur beats will get a lot tighter. Using it on melodies will make everything sound too computerised or "fake." If you leave it off of ur melodies and play as best you can it will give it that human or "realistic" feel. So, good luck....

1/8 moves your sound to the nearest 8th note in a 1 bar sequence, 1/16 moves it to every 16th note, etc. etc.

right now i have time correction off becuase no matter what i set it to.. 1/8
1/16 ...1/32... it always makes my drums seem retarted. it seperates them too much and slows them down in the wrong place and speeds them up in the wrong place. I no its just doing what its supposed to but is anyone else having major problems wiht it?

an experienced user told me never to turn it off... is that a general consensus or do many people turn their T.C. off too?

fuk time correct except when you want to use note repeat. i think that you should just repeat over and over till you get your shit on time. what i do is put the click on during play and just play my drums, live, to that, then adjsut the bpm to whatever it goes with. i totally agree with the retardation statement cause it just jumbles it up or sometimes it even seems to take out notes. but yea, i only use it when i want to repeat notes.

What tempo are you working at? 1/16 tends to work better for andything under 110bpm and 1/32 tends to work better for anything around 140bpm if im not mistaken

i dont know. for me, using quantize all the time just makes all my beats come out sounding like background music on one of those cheesy afterschool specials. especially any melody stuff. like piano lines or basslines.

sometimes i'll use it on drums. and then just select certain pads in seq edit and alter them a bit. like lay the beat down quantized, and then use seq edit to move all the snares a little bit off. that way it sounds a little more human and less computerized.

i guess it also kinda depends on the music you are doing. if its techno or house or whatever, you might be able to get away with using it all the time. but hip hop stuff sounds wack (At least to me) when everything is just quantized.

Yeah it messes up my patterns too with it on. I use it at the 1/16th but why does it have 50% on there? I used to have a 2000XL I dont remember there being a % of how much swing you want. I cant stand that. It makes my drums jump notes all over the place

yea i hate the swing too... is there any wahy to leave on the timing correctuion but turn off the swing? i cant seem to be able to do it... yea i make hip hop too so it meses with the notes

that's kinda interesting, cos i thought the whole mpc swing was supposed to be a big part of it's appeal to hip hop heads. i get the impression that on 16 @ 50% you get a pretty on the beat quantize... as soon as you start to notch it up, it makes a difference to the swing - i usually work around 110 bpm and find it can really add some unexpected groove if you set the tc to slightly different values for individual elements....... it takes some playin around with though...

I also find it strange that you can't turn off the swing function. Even my little Alesis SR-16 drum machine allows you to turn off the swing feature.

Swing is good on some tracks but I dont want swing on everything it really messes up the flow of the pattern. especially when working on R & B thats 75 BPM's and below. It throws everything off. Is there anyway to turn that off?

As far as I understand, when swing is set to 50% it is actually turned off. Swing affects the timing of the even notes, so 50% indicates that , for example, the 2nd note is exactly halfway between the 1st and 3rd. At 55%, it would be closer to the 1st note (and of course further from the 3rd), and so on.
