OK, here is a question for you all. I want to make my MPC the master for my set up. I have a keyboard right now. OK, here is my question, the Keyboard has about 61 keys (or something like that) and the MPC only has 16 drum pads, so what happens to the other 45 sounds? I'm a rookie with this MPC, so far I love it, I just have lots of tidbit questions. Does anyone know?

The MPC has 4 banks of 16 pads each for each program. You could thus set up the first 6 octaves on the first 4 banks (by adjusting note number assigned to individual pads on the note page of the program mode) and change programs to use the last 2 octaves of the keyboard. Just be sure that you set to MIDI rather than Drum and that you don't assign samples to the pads of that program. (unless you want the MPC to sound simultaneously with the keyboard)

Try some of the K5000S sample Programs I've put up. Each has 2 Programs for the same samples: one "chromatic" with all notes from A01=35 to D16=98 (for keyboard), and Octave with one octave per page (4 octaves total) in a logical C-C layout (for pads).

I like your page, I just got off the FAQ portion. I wanted to ask a question. So if I have a USB ZIP drive and I want to save to that instead of the compact flash card. I couldn't hook it up directly? I'd have to hook the USB ZIP and the MPC 1000 to the computer, is that correct? Also, where is a good place to buy some ram for cheap. I'm thinking 128 or 256mb. Thanks in advance.

'Fraid so, you can't hook the two devices up directly, there would be no "master".

RAM I can't help you with, I bought the official upgrade, and I'm outside the USA. There are other threads on this, one yesterday.

I forgot about the Drum/MIDI Track setting when I was building programs, it only seems to matter in Step Edit. It has no effect on Programs.

I tried loading one of your programs but it didn't work for me. It said something like "File Not Found" or something like that. I have it in my MPC but when I hit the pads I don't get any sound. I'm sure I did something wrong because I'm a newbe but I don't know exactly what it was I did. I think it may because I don't have any .wav files of the samples or anything. Could that be the problem?

The ones I put on the first page - "pine piano" etc - have links to WAV samples on other sites, you need those before they work. The ones with my own samples are on the Samples page. Just keep the PGMs and the WAVs in one folder, save it all to the root of the card (e.g. X:\K5K-Crystalz) and load it up. If you have any more problems, post a list of the filenames you have...
