How bout a mpc3000 bible??

As I'm waiting for my unit to arrive from ebay I'm wondering what cool tricks I can try to make learning this machine fun? I been reading pdf manual but I know there's more stuff that ain't covered maybe some secrets or tips ya'll can give up? It's Saturday and rainin out side..

1) I read somewhere in an interview with Diamond D(can't remember where) that he runs his turntable thru a rolls pre before it hit's his mpc. What would be the purpose of this if a mixer is basically a pre-amp?

2) What process do you guys go thru when sampling to get shit soundin dope before it goes in. Obviously besides eq'ing in the mixer. Do you sample straight dry from the mixer or run it thru something before it hits the mpc after the mixer?(I guess this question could be tied in w/ the first one)

3) Organizing Songs on zips - Is this covered in any of the manuals? I haven't come across it yet.

4) Organizing samples- Coming from a machine where you could audition sounds how do ya'll do this? Just load up tons of samples and hope for the best? Create kits in programs and build around them after you load them into the mpc?

5) Anything to check for when I get the unit?

Sorry if I'm comin off like a don't know but a closed mouth don't get feed, and I know how cats can be sometimes about giving up secrets, hopefully ya'll down. Momma always told me if you spread love you gon get love in return. Plus it'd be cool to poly with some of you cats that got love for this music and the fun in creating it.

Here's a tip about organizing your zip files

Buy a second zip with USB connection and then you can transfer files to a comp and arrange them.

This is also great for backup
Which will be useful if a disk goes corrupt

Maybe it's a rolls RIAA phono preamp (maybe with tubes, I know rolls has made one). This is necessary if you have a turntable without a built in RIAA amp (or if your turntable has a RIAA amp that sounds bad). You could hook it up like this Turntable with phono out -> RIIA preamplifier -> MPC. This way you should get the best sound out of your vinyls, since not all DJ-mixers are that good sounding. I record straight from my Numark TTX1 turntable with built in RIAA into the 3000. On some sounds I might want to eq a little first, I send the turntable through my Presonus eq3b. I have also sampled through my TLAudio Fat One tube compressor, to get that tube sound.

I make as many partitions as possible on a Zip and save one (or two) beat(s) in each partition. Keep you filenames at max 8 characters so that it will work on a computer if your going to back up your beats that way (Zips are unstable, so backing up is a good thing to do for your work).

For me I allways sample the sounds I want to use when I make the beat. My records are my sample archives... But I have one Zip with bass-samples, and then I load them all, choose one of them, and then I delete the rest.

First of all, make shure that it has the right power specs to fit your outlet. Or else you might do some damage to it, or blow some fuses.

Hmm... Check the backlight, check that all buttons work proper. You can also open it up and check if the stock memory board is still in after a RAM upgrade. The stock board should in this case be removed.

Check the O.S. If it's not Mansell Labs Vailixi 3.50 ORDER IT! This O.S. is the best upgrade to your new baby.
