Getting best sample quality of vinyl, so they mix well

what does everybody do to get thier vinyl samples exactly how they want them? to mix them well?

i mean, i guess im wonderdering if a separate eq would help(or better mixer). or if any of you have differant techniques for differant type of sounds-i hate not using my mixer, but sometimes it sounds to "emphasized" ya know?

Sometimes i have trouble mixing my samples with bass tones (even if they are tuned) because they mudle up, but then sometimes i dont get the bump to the sample if i cut the low end down. ive noticed if i directly connect my table to the mpc, i get a "less bright sample" and if i swtich the table to phono, i get a thin sample, more hiss, but mixes well (ill usually filter out the top end a bit for the hiss)

i would say to record from your mixer, hook the table thru the mixer and hook the mixer to the mpc ins , then you can eq your sound, when you get it in the mpc your can clean it up by using the params, when you use the filters use the open window button and that take you in to the envlp feild where you can clean the sample even more,
but i would say the key is to keep your levels at a decent range when recording this will eliminate hiss alot,

I never sample directly into the MP, cause 9 outta 10 times, i'll want to "tweak" the sample a little first. I sample into Cool Edit, then if I need to I EQ it and remove the Vinyl crackle (if it's really bad...), I can just do it, then save as a .WAV file and import it into my MP on a ZIP disk.

Another beneifit to doing it that way is that your sample will already be on the PC for easy backing up. I have a whole directory in my PC for sample backup.

yeah, lately ive just been tryin to get my stuff perfect. I guess y ou can say-im making sure know one thinks "oh i can tell he sampled that" not, that i really care what they think, but just fine tuning my skills, and tryin to get my stuff to mix better.

I was also wondering because i revisited a couple tracks and i was like, damn i can believe i didnt hear that before (the bad sampling job).

anyways, i definately think the eq helps, but i will always half to eq/filter after its sampled to get rid of hiss. Im actually thinking of buying something like the akai s series, and an eq, so i can resample through the eq and really shape my sounds. problem is i really like the samples inside the mpc. The mpc4000 looks good, for this, but..........well i think i would enjoy the process and i dont do too much multisample looping, so i think i could work with like the akai s950 and compatibility would work between the two.

what do you think of the mfc 42?

I eq it on a dj mixer before I sample it, and when I get the 8 outs I'm gonna eq it further on a mixerboard and jazz it up with effects.

Str8t to the mpc.

I got 2 EQs hooked up before the mpc(one in the amp where the tts on, and one 19" graphic EQ hooked up after that).I dont use them that much though.I do EQs and stuff after a beat gets picked for a song(during the process).

i never used the mfc-42 but i think the filters on that are pretty sick, i seen this when i can out a few years back at the dj expo i went to , akai was there, and they showed a demonstration pretty sick , i just use the filtering that came with the mp , and i have been trying to use CEP to edit my samples a bit, which works out pretty good,

but yeah i also eq my samples and beats thru my 12 chl mixer befor recording it on to my 8 track where i can eq some more befor burning to a cd,

i want to get one of those mfc-42 just dont have the funds,

that is a cool idea, you can just go through and sample tons of shit, and have a tack full of samples, plus filter out the hiss.
