i was wondering how producers like manny fresh do those complex drum patterns. them high hat/snare rolls. Are they recordin at fast bpms ? I tried using the note repeat function but the hats dont speed up da way i want them 2. I guess the best example of what im talkin bout is that baby song by ashanti.

Lay a hi hat on a track at 1/8th or 1/16th (1/8th is best for me), then set your quantize to 1/32nd on another track and add the 1/32nd hi hat were u want it to speed up by holding the note repeat button and the pad, that's the easiest way for me

Yes and No....It depends. It can be done either way....Either at around 85BPM or Double that.

Nb...The quantize u program at will have to be appropriate for which ever BPM u use. IE 8ths & 16ths for 160+ and 16ths & 32s for 85+

The rolls etc comes in the form of velocity programming , not just a simple case of holding down the note repeat. That effect works , but only as a foundation....U have to go in a lil deeper to pull it off well.

Bravo

Ps.Listen to the edits in B.O.B (Outkast) for an example of velocity programming done well

all good methods, you can reaaaaaaly get the hats crackin if you go into step edit and play with the velocities and tunings slightly as well.

all of those "fast beats" are actually pretty slow with 16th - 32nd notes for hats. if you dropped em out and just listened to the kick and snare, its slow.
