Using USB hard drives with the MPC

OK so i've just bought my first MPC. I've bought the 128MB update and installed it. Cool so far, but then comes the issue of saving my beats. I've looked at the list of internal hard drives and found some good(ish) deals on the web for those 120GB jobbies and the mounting kits. However, in the mean time is was wondering

1) If it were possible to make use of the external MAXTOR 200GB USB hard drive i have connected to my PC to save the beats?

2) Also if i manage to connect the two will i have to format the hard drive for the MPC or will it handle the fact that it has been used for a windows based PC?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Note that: You will need a CF card in the Mpc card drive to do the transfer.
