MPC60 sampling question

Hey, i'm new here - great board, have gotten a lot of questions answered just by searching.

i just got a MPC60II and there's a problem when recording a new sound, i get no bass in the sample, is there any sort of settings in the machine that regulates the eq? or does the problem lie elsewhere.

Use your mixer and eq the sample more.

well i have it set up so that the rec in on the mpc comes from tape in on an amplifier wich in turn gets sound from the mixer. there are no ways to adjust eq, but you would think the sample would be recorded as it is, but now it sounds unnaturally bass-free. i think it has either to do with the mpc or i have it all set up wrong...

What does your setup consist of I think this will help more?

i got a regular stereo amplifier, through a mixer through to the mpc. nothing wrong there. it's just that no bass comes through to the mpc.

are there any settings/controls for EQ in the mpc? is it broken?

You need to EQ your mixer nothing is gonna sound good if you don't EQ.

I would suppose the Tape In is not the right port to be connected to the MPCs Record In.

the input on the mpc 60 is mono. sometimes if you use a stereo plug, you will get what you are talking about. make sure that plug you are using is mono

haha, damn. i meant tape out. i fixed it now, the problem was as lumin said, i had a stereo plug instead of mono. i connected it from the aux send on the mixer to rec in instead. thanks!

Hmmm,

maybe you have phase cancelation.
That can happen if you feed the mpc60 (or any other input) with the + (positive pole) or your Right channel to the + pole of your input and the + of the Left channel to the - (negative pole or ground) or your input.

So the bass exists in both L and R channels right?
If you have bad wiring or did that by accident then you have the same bass signal on + and then you reverse it making it - (minus) on the ground pole of the mpc. Then the mpc adds the two different poles.
for example you have a +2 singal and a -2 and if you add them up you have 0.
Sound elements that are different on the L and R channels will appear to you cos they are not Centered in the middle of the mix.

Thats an explanation.

That might've happen due to bad cables of something.

Do you also hear alot of reverb on stereo stuff that are in the mix of the original source?

When i first read about phase cancelation I set up a 3rd speaker in my room feeding it with R+ and L+ and i put it somewhere in the room and id get all these efect and back vocals and listen to my favorit tracks differently.

You can also experiment and listen to what engineers do on tracks.

The stereo plug is a 1/4 inch plug with two lines on it right? I use that kind and have not had any problems with bass... I usually use the 1/4 inch adapter plug that comes with headphones... but I want to cop these...



And the 5 foot ones to connect the mixer and the amp...

i had problems using a mono y connector to a single stereo cable and that caused the bass to cancel out.
ive changed my setup a bit and its fine now, but i had problems pluggin that stereo cable directly into my 60

thanks for all the answers folks, it works now. i got another question:

sometimes when i sample something, it shows up in all of the other samples on the disk too. so if i have a snare on one pad, it shows up on the kick pad to, so thers a kick and a snare on the same pad. it gets annoying sometimes, what's this about?

it seemed to have stayed in the mpc somehow, no disk no nothing inside and it still shows up, but only after i have recorded a sequence? there are no samples in the memory at all, no disk, but this sample i deleted still shows up after all of that! what do i do?
