Triggering GURU with MPC 2500 - need setup help

Hi,

Just picked up GURU and it's pretty cool. The trouble is, the MPC pads (by default) don't match up with the 16 pads in GURU.

I've looked at the fxpansion forums, and according to fxpansion, you have to remap MIDI note/cc numbers from within the MPC. I'm running JJ OS, and I'm in the MIDI note tab on the MPC. I change the pad assignments to match the notes in GURU and I get no sound.

Does anyone have this working? Let me know how you did it.

hey. dont know GURU at all. but does it have a little LED that indicates "MIDI in" is happening.

i presume u r using the same midi channel!

MIDI In is definitely happening. I'm using Logic 8 as a host and when I press an MPC pad it registers MIDI input in Logic.

And some of the MPC pads trigger sounds in GURU, but not all of them, and the order is a bit messed up.

What I'm having a problem with is altering the MPC MIDI note settings to match the GURU pad assignments. I can change the MPC MIDI notes, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Does changing MPC MIDI notes work at all?

yes i have done it for programs that use samples and I have also remapped the MPC notes for my external midi drumstation. so it works for me...

??

Create an MPC program with all notes mapped from 36 (C1) onwards.
Even call the PGM Guru, that should do it.
Make sure you set the the relevant midi out on the track on the main screen as well.
This should work for all MPCs.

I created the program in the MPC and it triggers Engine 1 in GURU just fine. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "set the relevant MIDI out on the track on the main screen". Do you mean on the MPC? I use the JJ OS and on the main screen I have track 1 set to MIDI, and the MIDI setting on the far right to 1A.

What I can't seem to figure out in GURU is how to make the MPC pad bank B play GURU's engine 2. Is there a way to do this? I'm using Logic 8.

I believe you can also use Guru's midi learn function and have the pads in Guru respond to the corresponding pads on your MPC (as an alternative for making a dedicated Pgm for the MPC).

I've just remembered from when I used to use Guru that each engine corresponds to the same numbered midi channel- so set your tracks on the MPC 1-8 to transmit from 1A for engine 1, 2A for engine 2 etc and that should work. All you would need to do is switch tracks on the MPC and they should automatically trigger the same number engine in Guru.
