lil help with 1/2 note intervals

i stuck on this ,maybe some one can explain this to me in a simple way,
how do you get 1/2,1/4,1/8 note intervals , i'm not sure i understand this, is this part of the swing function, cause if it is how do you get 1/2 notes, there is no 1/2 ,it starts at 1/8.
is this some music sh!t i dont know about and havent learned yet ,where can i read up on this,decepticon 3107 i read this in your tutorial i hear it in your demonstration but i can figure out how you got that, any help would be appreicated thanks. <-e.d.e

time signature works like this

the number on the bottom specifies a note value that gets a beat. for example 8 means 8th note gets one beat.

the number on top specifies the number of the bottom notes that make up a bar.

so 4/4 means a quarter note gets a beat and 4 quarter notes make a bar.

and 7/8 means an 8th note gets a beat and there are seven 8th notes in a bar.

so if you have a beat in 4/4 then it means that 2 half notes make a up a bar, or 4 quarter notes, or 8 8th notes, and so on.

yeah i think i got it , so how does that tsig work then you set that, or change it for your notes to make them longer or shorter, is this right, thats how i under stand it......uuurgghh my head hurts

if i understand you correctly, the answer is that changing the time sig will not change the duration of the notes, more like changing the meaning of them. if you have a 4/4 beat with a kick on the 1,2,3,and 4, then changing to 2/4 will mean yu have the kick on 1,2 and 1,2 of two bars but thats about it.

its a whole other can of worms about the practical difference between say, 3/4 time and 6/8.

but in a nutshell if you want to hit half notes on a 4/4 bar you just hit the 1st and 3rd 1/4 note, or the 2nd (but not the 4th cause that'll still be on the 1/4 note) . . . lol . . .

so how can i make a 2 bar sequence into 4 bars with out having to play the pads over again, is there a way to stretch 2 bars to 4 bars .

bearing in mind that im a noob to the mpc, the best way i know is to go into song mode, and make a song that is two reps of the sequence you want to double, and then there's an option to make your song into a sequence.
