can an internal and external hd be used at the same time, as in, if you install the 80 gig, you can still dump to an external or computer?

Can a computers HD be used to store samples, instead of either internal or external hd?

I brought a (brand new) mpc1000 the other day and came on here to try and find how to upgrade.....
I have read most of the thread and expected to have to buy the HDD converter thing as well as a hard drive and the extra RAM....
but when I took the casing off it looked like it was already there!?
is this right? or will I have to change whats there for the HDD thingy?

I didn't get a manual with it for some reason either so I couldn't look there.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Has anyone used a samsung HM121HC drive succesfully in the 1000?
specs are.... 2.5 ATA100 HDD - 5400rpm, 8MB Cache.
Found one at a good price locally but i can't return it if it turns out to be a no go.

Carnage wrote:Works a treat - looks like it can only see 111GB but thats ok.

this is not a problem of the akai, put that drive into a desktop pc and it would only see 111GB, all hard drives are the same you never get the full capacity, dont know the technical reason behind it all but its a fact. think my 160G in my mac gets like 148G in real terms which is bullshit where do they lose 12G!!! my 120G drive in the same mac also only sees 111GB.

can you use a 7200rpm drive in the akai?

that is, because in the production, everything is calculated with 1000.

so 120 GB are 120000000000 Bytes in production, but in reality it is calculated with 1024, so 120000000000 Bytes divided by 1024....are 111,75 GB - that´s it.
