EB-16 or 8 outs ?

Hey guys I know I've been asking a ton of questions lately but this one has nothing to do with a manual or the machine itself I was just wondering If you had the budget for only 1 of the 2 (like me i'm broke) which one would you choose? What are the benefits of having one or the other?

i do not own either, but i heard mixed reviews about the 8 outs---i heard that the individual outs sound different than the stereo out--if it is true, it may not be a bad thing.

ive heard pretty good things about the eb 16.

do a serach here. these 2 topics have been beaten to death.

i would get the 8 outs. you can do so much more. route your sounds to a mixer and process it even further there. there's almost endless possibilites when you can send sounds out to be processed individually!

i love my 8 outs! the eb16 would be cool and convenient, but i think you would get more for your money right now if you went with the 8 outputs

buy the 8-out board...you multiply your possibilitys .mixing with faders and a good eq changes your music in a nice way,it`s more intuitive.bought one and love it....

But if I dont have a mixer is there any benefits of getting the 8 outs now?

i guess not....i mean, if you have a soundcard with 8 inputs, it would be easier to record more tracks at one time (i've heard).

you should definately look into getting a mixer though imo. if not for the 8 outs, so that in the future, you can add more to your setup. you'll need a mixer if u add any other gear like modules or synths. so you can hear everything at one time.

but maybe the eb16 is better for you. personally, i would invest in a mixer, too. a nice audio editor and some plugs like lamp said is enough to do what the eb16 can do and more.

8 outs > fx

even if you don't have a mixer now, you will most likely in the future.

i use the digital in on the 8 outs a lot.

I actually plan on buying the mixer as well as the 8 outputs but besides that i have a macbook what else would i need to buy besides the mixxer and 8 outs to connect it to my laptop?

I can see why anyone would argue for or against the one over the other - The 8 outs is awesome if you have a console style mixer or multi channel soundcard. But the fx board gives you 2 four band filters - I use those filters on something in just about every beat I've ever done on the mpc. I think alot of people bash the fx board because the reverbs are very splashy and there's no tactile control whatsoever (not sequencable anyway - you could use the jog wheel while tracking, but I think the results would be unpredicatable... come to think of it, I should try that sometime...); in fact the guy at mars music that sold me my 2kxl tried to talk me out of buying the fx board. Let's just say that I would have been mad.

Basically it comes down to how you work -
8 outputs - great (really really really great) for multitrack recording, outboard processing and hands on, analog mixing.

Fx - arguably as (or more) useful than an internal zip drive if the mpc is the only machine you want to use.

oh crap - i forgot that the spidif I/O is on the 8 out card... That's an essential conduit, for me anyway

I got my MP with the 8 outs already installed, that was a major selling point.
I take those to a patch bay that then normals to my PT 8 ins.
I did pick up the fx card as well, but for tracking out sounds the 8 out card is essential in my setup.
It saves a ton of time when tracking, for real.
The fx card is cool too, for keeping it all in the box.

+8 outs i dont really use it on mine but if i get a bigger mixer i know it will be very useful.

anyone know of any good not too expensive mixers?
