mpc-1000 vs sp-505

im confused, why would you envy a 505 if you have an MPC? easy of work flow or not.. still? HUH? hehe

It's not about envy, they do different things. the 505 has realtime effects and quick resampling, realtime pitchshift and timestreatch with a BPM display for every sample, whether it is looped or not.

When playing with my friend's 303, I was tapping a snare that had the bpm of 86, I looped it found a longer sample looped at 99 bpm on another pad and had that looping, then ran the snare through a pitchshifter all the way up, then knocked the snare's looped bpm to 66. It was wicked.

The 303 couldn't be the heart of my studio like my 60, but it can do some cool stuff.

My friend has the 808, Its all right but i rather have a MPC (Bigger Pads to
Hit).

yea my friend has an 808 there are really easy to work with and if you were gonna do a show by yourself it would be great to use one cause you could have alot of the beat playing from that and then play along on the pads of the mpc

yea it would be nice to hook up an mpd 16 to the 808 for live preformances

The MPC's are certainly not as efficient as the SP range at manipulating your samples in real-time ie. filter + othe efx. I own a SP303 and MPC1k and the reason I got the MPC1k was for it's sequencing capabilities.

I used to have my MC-505Groovebox as a my main sequencer triggering my SP303. But because of the annoying way the MC505 sequencer is set up, arranging the samples on my SP303 was like working a rubix cube. The SP303 has no OMNI MIDI recieve option. This means because each track on the Gbox was assigned to an individual MIDI channel, I would have to put a whole sequence under one track. The Rythym track for anyone with a Gbox, (midi Ch.10) was the only channel I could assign seperate mute buttons for each sample on the SP303. They then had to correspond with the midi notes assigned to each of the mute buttons on the Gbox (eg note#31= kick, note#34= snare etc.).

So if you could understood any of that it gave me as many headaches as you got reading about it. Thats why I got my MPC - it's a fantastic Midi sequencer and my SP303, with it's realtime efx, now compliments it rather nicely.

so...has anyone ever used a yamaha su700, then ?

I haven't had any first hand useage, but it looks similair to the SP505.

I don't really know much about it though.

i get the impression that the su does what a lot of people on this thread seem to be looking for...as far as working with loops goes, it's MUCH better than the sp-303, 505, 808, asrx, or the mpcs, for that matter.
...it's much like a hardware version of acid, with assignable knobs, ribbon controller, really good filters and fx...the midi implementation sucks, but i have mine running as master clock to the mpc1k...su runs loops, and the mpc does everything else...tight.

The su is great. You can make a complete production on that machine. It's a sampler, digital mixer en fx-unit in one. The only disadvantage is the slow scsi zipdrive. That's the reason I bought the mpc 1000 for live usage.
